Museums

The National Railway Museum in York is a great place for kids to explore train-related artifacts from all over the world. There are huge locomotives, royal carriages, and miniature railways to enjoy, as well as play areas and exhibits on the history of rail transport. Pre-booking is required for some activities, but this is a great museum for families to visit.

Fantastic museum for train buffs. So much to see and really great to get so close to some of these fantastic machines. My favourites were the Flying Scotsman, but personally I think it was out done by the almost art deco Mallard. One last thing: out of the blue the cafe served me the best cup of coffee I've had for a long time!Recommended and if you take the train to York, within fairly easy walking distance.

Great museum for train fans. As a huge steam train fan, my husband liked the museum very much. Kind employees and really good coffee, tea cake corner.Beautiful big steam trains and other little stuff. And all for free!! If it was in the Netherlands, we surely had to pay.Of course, we donated some money.

Mariska V — Google review

As a steam fan I’ve always wanted to see this place. Finally visiting York so had a chance to come and visit. Loved it. Only four stars as the Flying Scotsman wasn’t here and they don’t sell bottle water. It’s hot we need water!!

Andrew M — Google review

Amazing free museum, many vintage trains and they all look so impressive! No need to book ticket in advance really, they just let you in since it's free. Not too crowded even on Sunday afternoon. Would be even better if there are more interactive things to do, or being able to go in one of the vintage trains. The cute train back to York center is nice too. It's £3.5 for adult, single journey.

Ivy N — Google review

Amazing place! There's so much to see. I've been quite a few times, and I'm always blown away by the collection of trains and memorabilia. It's an amazing place to spend an afternoon, or if you are like me and look and read everything, you could spend the day. There's a couple of coffee shops and souvenir shops. I love the fact that it's free / donations. All in all a great day for all the family.

Missy B — Google review

I know it's not York Minster but this place is amazing, especially given the lack of entry fees. Even if an entry fee was made here it would be justified as you can see where the money is being spent. A very worthwhile place to see our transport history over the last 200 years

Matthew M — Google review

We spent a Thursday morning here in August. Free to get in, but please do leave a small donation. Very busy here, but loads of room for the kids to run around, along with plenty of tables at the eating areas. The trains are a marvel. Lots of history, information, and raised platforms to look inside the trains. We could have spent much longer here and will probably return at a quieter time.

Dave P — Google review

I'm not a railway enthusiast, but this place is fabulous! Every type of engine imaginable, including a bullet train. It's free entry, too, although donations are obviously welcome. It's also got a nice cafe and shop.

Jackie P — Google review

A amazing place to visit, the railway history being saved is wonderful. The exhibits are of top quality, especially the Mallard with a real attention to detail in all the renovations throughout the museum. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The museum is free to enter but donations are greatly appreciated. There is limited parking at the museum (£10 all day) but the park and ride ( route 59) stops just outside the entrance which, is an affordable alternative.

Louise E — Google review

A fantastic museum to bring the whole family. It is very kid-friendly and there are exhibits for people of all ages. The trains on display are in immaculate condition. Well worth the journey to York for this museum alone.

Tom C — Google review

It’s the amazing spot which we can see the exhibits of trains that ran not only in Europe but also outside Europe. Especially so excited that we could enter inside the bullet train!Highly recommend to come here

Momoko S — Google review

Free entryNot too busy on a weekday (went on a friday)No need to prebook on a weekday as there was no wait to get in.Lots of trains to see telling you about all the history involved. It’s very engaging.Other areas seem pretty interesting too, especially for children, you do have to pay for the more intricate experiences which is understandable, but its not that expensive. Definitely recommend

Caroline L — Google review

What a wonderful museum! So many beautiful engines and so beautifully kept it really is an astounding collection. But it's not just the locomotives and carriages the models and railway paraphernalia that are on display are just mind-blowing. Coming here is a must for any rail fan and I highly recommend it,

Lachlan B — Google review

Definitely one of the best museums in the country and I'm not even a train spotter. Free entry but understandably you are asked to make a contribution on entry. Excellent catering and a quality gift shop on site. The exhibits are amazing and impressive. The museum is currently being developed and all going to plan, by the end of 2026 will be even better. For me that will definitely mean a return visit to York.

Tony H — Google review

A very interesting museum. Here you can see several interesting wagons and trains of the past centuries, immerse yourself in the history of developments of the past. Looking at the design of these trains, you understand that earlier people made reliable and beautiful things that are nice to look at in the modern world.

Александр Т — Google review

Can’t say enough great things about this place! It’s free to get in yet it is by far the best museum in the UK as it is so well kept, clean, incredibly displayed and full of so much. All the trains are meticulously kept and you can walk up and touch them all. Bonus of the flying Scotsman was great. Definitely donate as it is maintained well.

Jeffrey H — Google review

We had an amazing visit to the York National Railway Museum! The exhibits were fascinating and well-presented, showcasing a rich history of railway innovation and travel. The collection of locomotives and carriages was impressive, and the interactive displays kept both adults and children engaged. The museum was clean, well-organized, and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. It was a wonderful educational experience for the whole family. Highly recommend for anyone interested in history or trains!

Zaidatul J — Google review

The admission is free but they asked for donations which we thought it was reasonable. My husband who's a train lover donated more than the recommended amount.. we both enjoyed the museum (maybe husband enjoyed it more)

Jaynie L — Google review

Excellent Place to Visit.Since They're Relying On Donations or Parking Fees, This Place Deserves Attention. You Don't Have to Be a Train Enthusiast to Visit To Visit This Place. This Place Has a Rich Collection of Locomotive History & Some Current Subjects. I Was Happy to See Peace From All Range of Life & Keeping This Place Active. Highly Recommend this Little Gem of a Museum.

AL13 M — Google review

Great place for families and people of all ages. Lots of interesting history about the trains. Lots of trains to look at. You can go on some trains. There is a cafe and a gift shop. There is a play area for children. Would recommend if visiting York. They have a car park over the road which is £10 all day and conveniently, they have a train cart that will take you into the centre for a small extra charge. You can also get this back to the car park or it is about a 20-30 minute walk.

Historical landmark

Sights & Landmarks

Located in the heart of old York, Clifford's Tower offers some stunning views across the city and centuries-old York Minster from its circular platform high up. It also played an important role throughout history, including time as a prison and royal mint. After years of restoration work, the Tower has been transformed with a new interior to let visitors explore parts they have not been able to access for centuries.

As a member, I was able to walk in quite quickly. Steep steps up to the main entrance. They have installed a rather good internal structure that allows you inside and up without putting undue stress on the fabric of the building. Some great views from the top.

Stephen M — Google review

This ruined tower, standing on a grassy mound that is covered with daffodils in the spring, has been much restored and improved since my last visit a few years ago. It was once the keep of a mighty castle, built by William the Conqueror in 1068. It's a long climb up a steep flight of stairs to get to the entrance. Adult admission at the door was £11.50 including a donation (£6.50 for children, £10.50 concessions, under 5's free), but you pay less if you book online in advance. I also bought a beautifully illustrated guidebook for £4.50, which includes a map and lots of information about the tower's history. It's basically a ruin, but you can still see original fireplaces, a medieval toilet, and the private chapel. Around the ground floor, there are info boards and also audio chairs where you can sit and listen to the stories of York residents who lived through the tumultuous and often tragic events of the castle's 1000 year history. Helpful volunteers were on hand to answer any questions. Modern staircases and walkways have made accessibility to the upper floor much easier, but you have to climb a spiral staircase (with a handrail) to get to the roof. Fantastic views of York that stretch for miles on a clear day, and the new wooden roof deck and seating made it easy and pleasant to walk around and view the city from all directions. Maps point out the main landmarks. Clifford's Tower is well worth a visit for both its fascinating history and the views.

Valerie H — Google review

Well worth a visit, it's a beautiful place. English heritage have done a fantastic restoration.Inside the tower there are many information boards describing the history of the tower from its very beginning up to modern day.The roof terrace is fantastic and a must-see if you can cope with the spiral staircase! The views of York and surrounding countryside are wonderful any time of year.

Andrew W — Google review

Stout Norman castle tower stood atop a prominent mound, offering good views of the city skyline from the top.Wooden walkways and platforms inside the castle make it much more accessible to visitors than it used to be, and there's plenty of informative signage around the castle. The price of entry seems on the high side (£10 for adults at the time of my visit in August 2024) given the castle is relatively small and the exterior can be viewed freely, but for members of English Heritage it's well worth looking inside.Online booking is advisable to avoid the queues on the way in.

Andrew T — Google review

If you climb steps in the rain, just don’t rush. The first set of steps can be uneven- they’re stone. Once inside, all but the last approximately 20 steps are very non-slip but the last are again stone and tight spiral steps. Be prepared. The view is lovely!

Lyn W — Google review

It's a good heritage site. With this name we thought it will bi very big monument, but it's actually situated on on small hill kind of structure. It is very old structure but new roof deck gives unrivalled views over York's historic skyline, with its medieval buildings and famous Minster. Inside, new walkways and staircases have opened up parts of the tower that have been off-limits for centuries, and immersive soundscapes and stories are bringing the tower’s turbulent history to life like never before. It is also known with another name as Eye of York due to the long and good visibility you get from the top of this structure. The ticket amount is not that much worth but still old monument you can visit. It's also have facility of washroom inside.

Rohit P — Google review

Beautiful place, with a great view overlooking the city, English Heritage members get in for free. Parking at thr bottom of the tower, fair price too... lovely friendly staff, greets with a smile. Been renovated and has a great walk away above the entrance door... not many steps to get to the roof of the tower... would recommend!

Tim R — Google review

Clifford's Tower is a historic monument located in York, sits atop a motte (earth mound), is a quatrefoil or four-leaf clover shape, unique among English castles. The interior is largely ruined, visitors can still see remnants of the original rooms and features like the chapel and fireplaces. We can climb to the top of the tower for panoramic views of York and the surrounding countryside. There is an entry fee.

Anith J — Google review

Great small castle with lots of history. Definitely worth the visit. Climb up to the middle level and then to the top. Great 360 view of the city. Buy tickets in advance if it's busy.

Udellorti ( — Google review

This is an interesting attraction which is historical and nearly 1000 years, in York. Their staff are extremely polite and friendly. You need to take stairs up to get an Adult ticket at £11.50. And then climb further up to the roof top. There is a nice roof top with seats, to soak in the paranomic view and take beautiful pictures 360 degrees around York. The weather was wonderful, so I could bask in the sunshine for a while.Helen

Helen L — Google review

We've not visited for a good few years. Amazing renovation of the Tower with some parts not seen for many years. Amazing views of York from the top level. Would advise to book online as it is cheaper, and you can skip the queues with having an e ticket.

Christine L — Google review

It is a great historical building inside and out.I would recommend you book before going as you can save money. Also, if you like us, you are going to places like these that are part of the English Heritage group, then join it and save even more money .www.English-Heritage.org.ukI would definitely recommend a visit to the tower as it's great to add to a family day out .

M D — Google review

This is a terrific place to walk up to when visiting York. It offers a terrific view across the city from the top. The Tower itself is rich history and although it is probably not the best castle one could visit, the view is worth a look. There is plenty of details around the history of the Tower inside - if one is interested.

Norm P — Google review

Lovely view of York from the top and a rich history. Enjoyed my visit here telling the history of the Tower. Isn't the best castle I've been, However, the view from the top is worth a look. If you are into your history, it has plenty of description inside of the castle and so voice notes to listen to.

James K — Google review

Many trips to York, first time to visit the Tower. Unfortunately it's raining but the views are still amazing. Recommend booking online, saves a bit of time and money on entry, well worth a visit.

Wayne G — Google review

Had a fantastic day out here plenty of history to look at. The ruins are great. I fully enjoyed it here. Advantage of being an English Heritage Member.I personally wouldn't pay the entry price for what you get as it's as steep as the steps to get in.Great views of York from the top. There is a steep climb to get in up the stairs so beware .

T G — Google review

Newly renovated York Castle (or Clifford’s tower), a castle with a wealth of history, way before the roman invasion. The building was renovated in 2022 and now there is a great platform on top with a panoramic view of the entire city of York.

Olafur O — Google review

York Castle or more commonly known as Clifford Tower 🏰 is located at the south side of York. It is in ruins today and seats majestically on the top of a hill. It is also unique as it has a circular design.Today this Tower is fully refurbished by the Heritage Board. You can purchase tickets at the entrance and visit the inside of the tower. The two-stories tower has a quatrefoil plan with four circular lobes. You can climb these circular lobes and in one of it, it will lead you to the King’s chapel. (Don’t miss it!!) At the top, you will have a gorgeous 360° view of the south city. ⛰️Inside the Tower, all round you will have write ups on the history and most heartbreaking would be the story of “Massacre of Jews” whereby 150 Jews committed suicide inside the castle around 1189.This castle is unique in design and rich in history. A good time to visit would be early morning or late afternoon before the sun sets. 🌅The natural light rays gives a perfect opportunity to have beautiful pictures. I will encourage you to spend an hour here followed by a visit to York Castle Museum in front of it. (Take note of their operation hours)#circularcastle#yorkdefence

Ivan P — Google review

Fascinating history and the 2022 improvements make it much more interesting to look around. Well worth a visit.

Mark H — Google review

English Heritage have done a great job fitting the walkways and roof so you can take advantage of the amazing views of York from the top. Lots of stairs and some very narrow winding staircases but it's worth the effort. Bit blowy on top so keep a tight grip on your phone/camera. Plenty of history about the tower and the area, which was very informative. Despite it being a hot and sunny day, there was no queue and very few others inside. Allow about half an hour to see it all, or a bit longer if you just want to sit and enjoy the views.

The Jorvik Viking Centre is a museum that recreates the 9th century Viking village in York. It is a very fun attraction with an exciting ride experience. It was voted as one of the most popular tourist attractions in the UK and is great for children.

I didn't know what to expect fully, apart from a museum, so I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered there was a ride which took you through a full reconstruction of a the Viking settlement upon where the centre is now. So many details, excellent animatronics, and a clear and detailed spoken guide telling you facts and information. After the ride, you get to go through the museum to look at the artefacts found in the digs. There is also a lovely gift shop at the exit. Booking in advance is highly recommended to ensure you get in, especially during busy periods. You can also save on a duo ticket with DIG and even more so with a Passport. Your ticket is also valid for a year!

Shai B — Google review

It was an amazing experience. The glass flooring covering a recreation of what was discovered was incredible. The staff were terrific. Nothing was too much for them to give visitors an unforgettable visit. The experts were so engaging, explaining what was found and how they'd been used. They bought artifacts to life, with fun and subject enthusiasm. They made a good experience, excellent.I highly recommend this location.

Roma M — Google review

It's the first time I've been to this viking center, it's great for education and the kids certainly liked it but going around the first "ride" part it does incorporate smells into the experience to take you back and some of those smells are not great 😅. But all in all it's quite good.

Ben R — Google review

Had most interesting & joyfulled experience. The excellent displays & buggy ride gave you amazing insight to the Viking lives in Coppergate.Staff full of information & glad to share it. Booking prior would be bestWell done to all staff. The manakins took me back in time. Sights, noises & smells !!

Joy G — Google review

Pre-booked tickets, so no queue.Staff all lovely and it's a great place to visit, though it's not as big as I hoped. Not sure about the amount of tattoos on display with regards to historical accuracy but other than that it was really nice.I guess due to its position it doesn't have much chance of growing any bigger and I was hoping for more weapon/armour displays but I appreciate the finds are few and far between in the UK.Not sure if the exhibits change, would definitely visit again if they do.

Chris F — Google review

Love visiting this place, been a few times now and it's always great refreshing myself with more of the history and enjoying all the work put into this place. The staff really go all out dressed up and seem passionate about their work.

Dahlia R — Google review

Awesome place to visit for a viking experience. The ride was fun and informative as we're the staff working there. Sidenote was a surprising shock to find a fellow kiwi working at the gift shop there.

Michael D — Google review

An interesting museum with plenty of history and insight into the Viking period of York. The ride was good and it offered great historical information into the Viking era of this city that dates back to 866 AD. They have many artifacts discovered from the Coppergate Dig that took place from 1976-1981. On display here are skeletons of a male and two women, beads, metal swords, cutlery and cookware, socks, shoes, clothing etc. The ride is nice and slow and nothing to worry about. You can select a language for the narration to suit your needs. If you are into Viking history it is worth the trip. They offer options for purchase including child and senior discounts. Staff are informative and eager to share information all you have to do is stop. The value for money was well worth it. Allow an hour to visit and then there is a gift shop.

Onthegoboomer — Google review

The sounds and smells as you go round in hanging viking boats is clever and helps with the visuals. Really enjoyed it, no cafe but it us in York City Centre. The gift shop isn't as big as you would expect. Loved it though

Kerry L — Google review

An absolute must for history lovers visiting York! Great to do with kids as well. Would highly recommend you book tickets in advance, but well worth it!

Carly R — Google review

this is a one of a kind experience. you are greeted with a glass floor, beneath you is a muddy excavation site. you hop onto a cable cart type machine which takes you around a viking village filled with life like robots and historically accurate smells. the automated voice guides you around, picking out key details of the village. when you exit the cart, the museum is full to the brim with information as well as an interesting talk with the workers. you can also buy a viking coin. although the actual museum part was a bit short, the life likeness of the tour made it worth every penny. I would love to return again and hope to see more additions.

Jueseppi — Google review

We didn't buy a ticket beforehand and had to stand in a queue outside for a bit, but it even though it was in the middle of summer vacation, it wasn't too bad. The staff is really good at explaining everything you see and you can ask them about everything. It was a very fun encounter when you come as a dane!

Helene K — Google review

Great family-friendly experience (ride) showing Viking life in York supplemented with a traditional museum display to walk through at the end. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Even if you have booked a time slot you can still join the standby queue if you get there earlier than planned.

Geoff T — Google review

I was not expecting to like this/did not know what to expect. It was one of the wife's choices. I have to say, I was blown away. If you are visiting York, this is a great place to visit if you like to know history of things but find the reading too much much like hard work. I only took a picture of a dog as I had not taken any other doggy or puppy pictures that day, the rest - go and see it for yourself - you would not be disappointed. There is a height requirements. I think it was 1.2m tall or about 4 feet tall.

Charles L — Google review

This was well coordinated. Booking tickets at least the day before early on is a must, spaces fill up quick and you can't book on the day on the website. We arrived 10 mins early as requested and waited in line for the group in front to go in. Think it was 15 min gaps between groups so expect to wait approximately that time. We went through and saw the replica of the viking level floor which was explained to us by a couple of the people that worked there that were dressed up in authentic clothing. We queued about 10 mins to get onto the ride. The ride has a screen and you pick your language for the narration on the way round. Unfortunately when we went on, it broke down! This meant we missed some things on the narration of scenes when we went round but they asked if we wanted to go around again which we did for the full experience which was much better! Great little tour and experience of life back then. The museum of the artifacts they found when excavating was really lovely, with full descriptions of the items and trades across the world at the time. Very informative.

Kirsty W — Google review

Brilliant train ride through a history of their village life. Created by archaeology dig. The actual site can be seen beforehand and explained by staff in costume. The moving models are amazing. You think that they might speak. Definitely go yourselves.

Linda C — Google review

It took under an hour to explore and go on the ride and for a family of 5 ... over £50. The experience needs to be at least 90 mins so either offer some 'excavation' type activity for children or build the museum part up so you can smell/ touch/ hear things in a more interactive way or even a video based on the history of the bookings in York ... but for two rooms and a mini track ride it was a disappointing experience.

Gillian K — Google review

Thoroughly enjoyed seeing how they use to live. Staff friendly& informative. We liked the ride around what’s changed so much over the last 40 years we last went!Love how they are all dressed up and passionate at what they do.Just been back today free has the tickets last a year.Thoroughly enjoyed again. Staff very passionate at what they do. Queuing today to get in, advisable to book tickets even if free entry.

Our first visit and it was amazing! The staff were great and answered all the questions we asked. The ride was so interesting and we came away with so much knowledge about the viking settlements in and around York. I even got a free viking coin because it was my birthday! Well worth the visit

Cathedral

Sights & Landmarks

York Minster is one of the most beautiful religious buildings in England and is a must-visit for anyone looking to explore Yorks medieval past. The cathedral, which was first built in the 7th century, was destroyed in a fire in 1069 but has been rebuilt many times since then. The building is vast, decorated with intricate stained glass windows and features interactive exhibits beneath its Undercroft exhibition.

Initially I did not want to go inside due to the cost of £16pp entry.Tickets last a 12 months so you can visit multiple times and offer you lots to do inside, museum, gallery, free tours inside, etc turned out to be well worth the cost as internally it's magnificent and would now highly recommend this if you're in York.Beautiful cathedral with lots to see and do once Inside.

Che86 — Google review

Impressive architecture! We did the tower too whilst there. Great views across the city. Plenty to see inside. Information on the fire in the 80s & museum section underground about the history of the site. We spent a good few hours for us. Kids were free to the main cathedral which always helps to keep it affordable too.

Vicki N — Google review

This place is beyond beautiful. We had to walk around the building to find the entrance for the tours but it was so beautiful on the outside we did not mind. When we entered using our LONDON PASS (get one while you're in London) and were immediately in awe. These walls have seen so much history that you can feel it while walking around. Plenty of places to snap photos of and signs explaining the significance of certain items.

Chris H — Google review

Amazing experience we'll worth the cost of entry - even more so if you pay extra to take the Tower Climb challenge. The atmosphere of climbing the narrow staircase is unmatched, and walking around the cathedral top equally amazing, great value!

Tom G — Google review

Very big cathedral, impressive inside and out. It cost 16 per person to go in. Extra 5 if adding the tower tour. There is a lot to see, my favourite was the museum bit. Definitely recommend.

Briga H — Google review

Beautiful cathedral with the most wonderful, intricate stained glass windows. We also did the tower climb (275 steps), which gave great views over the city. It was a little pricey, but it was probably worth it.

Dave P — Google review

Amazing piece of history, this beautiful structure honestly makes you catch your breath, inside are so many intricate works from the walls, windows and ceiling. Not to forget the amazing statues and memorials.I'll always visit this amazing place.

Dahlia R — Google review

I’m always amazed to visit structures built in medieval times but did not benefit from modern technology, machinery, and York Minster. The size and details of the structure are mind-blowing! The stained glass is impressive, and the bells fill the city!

Amy N — Google review

Beautiful work of architecture, with most amazing intricate design and detail. Upon entering the crypt certainly felt the energy shift. So much interesting information and artefacts, definitely need a full morning or afternoon to soak it all up. You will not be disappointed

Sophia H — Google review

What a breathtakingly beautiful place this is! Such a beautiful building preserves so much history. It was fascinating to read about the unfortunate events that occurred to the minster's roof, but it was also heartwarming to learn that so many people came together to help in its time of need. There is so much to explore underground, and the children found it fascinating, which made it all the more enjoyable for us adults. It is undoubtedly worth a visit!

Tamara T — Google review

York Cathedral also known as York Minster stands as a testament to medieval craftsmanship and the enduring importance of religious and cultural heritage in England. It is a functioning cathedral and the seat of the Archbishop of York, the second-highest office in the Church of England. It is an excellent example of Gothic architecture and is known for its stunning stained glass windows, intricate stone carvings, and grand scale.Chapter House an octagonal room is known for its detailed carvings and vaulted ceiling.Visitors can climb the 275 steps of Central Tower for panoramic views of York. There is an extra charge for this apart from the admission fee. Guided tour is also informative.

Anith J — Google review

Awe-inspiring cathedral, construction of which began in the late 11th century. Every facet of the building is rich in detail, with more to see the more you look.I didn't go inside the Minster on this occasion due to time constraints, but was able to appreciate its grandeur walking around the exterior. It's worth passing by at night, when the central tower is illuminated. For those who do want to look inside, the Minster is open from 09:30 to 16:00 Monday to Saturday, and 12:45 to 14:30 Sunday. Tickets are £18, or £24 also including the central tower.

Went to the Minster for the opening night of the Phoenix light show at 7pm.Luckily got there early at about 18:10 so I was pretty much first in the queue. The show was about the Minster setting on fire and the following repair works.I would say the show was fairly disappointing compared to the Vivaldi light show at St George's Hall in Liverpool which was far better and had beanbag seating. This event at the Minster was standing only which after over 30 minutes stood outside waiting was a little jarring.

Baz Z — Google review

Visiting York Minster was an extraordinary experience that left me in awe. The intricate beauty of the building's architecture was truly breathtaking, with every detail telling a story of history and craftsmanship. Climbing the tower added an adventurous twist to my visit, and reaching the top rewarded me with a panoramic view that was nothing short of exquisite. It was a moment of pure wonder and appreciation for the stunning beauty that York Minster has to offer.

Mary M — Google review

My husband and I decided to go to the Minster for a day out. The ticket is quite expensive initially at £18ish pp, but this does cover access all year round (which is ideal if you live locally but not so much if you live further afield). They have tours run by volunteers, which is included in the price, but you can pay an additional £6 pp for the tower challenge. This involves you walking up 275 steps up a tower, which doesn't sound like very many, but boy oh boy it's on steep, short steps and in tight cramped walkways. The view at the top is phenomenal and completely worth it though (plus there's benches up there). This is the largest Minster I have been to so far, and there's so much to see and learn here! They have an underground museum, crypt, and beautiful stained glass windows, just to name a few things. The Minster is steeped in history and is a truly beautiful place to experience at least once. The view from outside was pretty but inside, it was breathtaking.

Laura C — Google review

Beautiful, inside and out. I recommend doing the tower and getting the tickets. Very narrow space to go up but the views are amazing

Alejandro G — Google review

Visited the Minster yesterday. Wasn’t too busy, £18 entry which I thought was a little expensive - but does provide you with unlimited entry for an entire year. The rooms are BEAUTIFUL. Really breathtaking. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit and will be back to make the most of my ticket !

R 7 — Google review

Nice to see but hefty price for most people- admittedly this lasts the year, if you’re ever just passing York Minster. Beautiful outside and in, the stained glass is gorgeous, you have to take it all in to appreciate it. The museum downstairs was good, lots to ponder over, with some fine collections of silver and clothing.

G W — Google review

Totally worth the money. If for nothing else but to help preserve this piece of history. Religious or not, the events and people who lived here from Roman times through the Vikings, Middle Ages to present. The architecture and stained glass windows are amazing. Don't miss out on the museum down in the basement that shows the Roman excavation and Viking influence on the city. A great cultural experience.

Udellorti ( — Google review

Absolutely fantastic building. Simply incredible. The tickets are reasonably priced considering how much the upkeep is. Definitely worth paying the few pounds extra to go to the top of the tower. But if you are unfit or scared of heights do not attempt it. As the minster itself and the craftsmanship on display is more than enough to keep you occupied for a couple of hours.

Specialty Museums

The York Castle Museum is a popular historical place museum in York, North Yorkshire, that exhibits everyday life from ancient times to the Victorian era. The museum includes a Victorian street with authentic shop fittings and period rooms such as a schoolroom. One of the most memorable parts of the museum is the Victorian street, which features original items inside old windows.

This place is absolutely massive. Definitely a great way to entertain kids for a whole day. I went with a friend and we both really had fun here, the Victorian streets were really cool, and then they had so many different exhibits too! A lot of little interactive things which we enjoyed far too much for our ages 🤣 came on a weekday when the kids would have been at school so it was pretty quiet.

Lunar_ M — Google review

What a fantastic and remarkable gem this place is! I must admit, when I first saw the entrance and considered the price of admission, I had low expectations and thought it would be just a place to spend a few hours. However, I was pleasantly surprised and proven completely wrong! The museum is incredibly vast and offers so much to explore. There is a wealth of informative exhibits and a variety of interactive activities. The Victorian Street exceeded my expectations, and visitors can even purchase sweets in an old-fashioned sweet shop while dressed in period costumes. In the courtyard, children can enjoy playing a variety of vintage-style games, with the hoop game appearing to be particularly popular. We happened to visit on a day when a show was being performed, and it was absolutely delightful. The show was both educational and entertaining, and everyone in the audience actively participated as it took us on a journey around the grounds, even experiencing a hot air balloon ride (of sorts). It was heartwarming to see people of all ages laughing and enjoying the performance.Although strollers are not permitted inside the museum, they kindly provide a variety of baby carriers free of charge for visitors to use during their visit.I am eagerly looking forward to returning to this wonderful place in the future!

Tamara T — Google review

The Victorian Streets are open again and currently covered in snow.More shop fronts and the sweet shop has moved... the toy shop still has a little of the lingering smell from the previous occupant 😍It's been a few years since my last visit but this remains as a favourite museum... I'm sure I missed a bit but that could have been new areas that of change.Good value at £7 and that gives allows access all year. York Children go FREE.

Colin ( — Google review

At £17 each we hoped this would be fairly good value and we're not disappointed. Your ticket actually allows you free return visits too.The extensive galleries and semi interactive wings of this pretty huge facility is extremely well assembled and laid out in a way that has you almost wondering if you missed a section down an alley or corridor. It is vast but not cavernous like the Natural history museum in London. The replica streets have some genuine shops and pub frontages as well as really furniture actually used by locals over a period of several hundred years. The wartime displays and the stories of the characters are well produced. My personal favourite parts were the train carriage replica (look under the seat cushions!) and the projections of the prisoners in the old jail. This is probably the best museum I have been in for a very long time and definitely worth the price of admission.Allow yourself 2 hours to really explore the entire collection. The highlight of our trip to York.

In V — Google review

What a fantastic museum, it is made up of two parts. The first is the recreated Victorian street complete with shop fronts and even a back alley slum. The second part is when the world changed forever during WW1, culminating with a 1960s street. The last part shows what the final use of the building was used for, which is a prison. They have a cafe and a gift shop, They charge for entry, but free entry is available to recipients of numerous benefits, so check the website.

Review of Castle MuseumThe Castle Museum sits proudly on a hill, offering a superb panoramic view of the city that sets the mood even before you step inside. The buildings have an old, rich vibe that draws you in with their captivating historic style, which truly enhances the overall experience. As a former prison, the museum gave me pause to reflect on its dark past and the lives of those who were held here, including notable figures like Guy Fawkes and the Quakers. This historical depth adds a hauntingly real touch to the visit, making it more than just a visual journey. The exhibits are incredibly well-organized, making it easy to navigate through the various sections. From the relics of war, such as helmets, gas masks, and armors, to everyday items like Dutch pots and pressure cookers, the displays are thoughtfully curated to immerse visitors in the past. I especially appreciated the use of holograms and videos, which provided an engaging way to learn about the artifacts and their histories. One of the highlights for me was the interactive trench exhibit, although I found it a bit cramped. It’s a unique addition that adds to the immersive experience, even if it’s not perfectly suited for everyone. The museum is impeccably clean and well-maintained, reflecting the care that goes into preserving both the exhibits and the visitor experience. While I didn’t interact much with the staff, the overall service felt smooth and efficient.I highly recommend the Castle Museum to history enthusiasts and families alike. It offers a unique glimpse into the past with a mix of somber reflection and educational engagement. Whether you’re interested in military history, everyday life in bygone eras, or simply enjoying a good view, this museum has something to offer.

Spontaneous trip with 2 kids, age 10 and 13 who both really enjoyed their visits! There's so much to see and some fun interactive bits such as period dressing up stations.4 really well planned out areas in a clear to follow one-way system over 2 floors so don't miss anything. The WW1 area was especially interesting and the kids loved the cobbled streets and period shops and businesses. This would be fantastic for a school visit! There are toilets, a small cafe and a lovely giftshop. Entry was reasonable and we easily spent 2 hours here.Would definitely recommend!

Rachel E — Google review

Had a lovely afternoon out in this museum yesterday. Such an interesting collection of items to see.I loved the way the museum took you on a journey and the variety of areas to see - I particularly liked the shops. On arriving home I had a look at the pictures Id taken and found a really weird one!I find dolls scary at best if times but look like there are monks hovering below the doll on top right shelf 😳I suspect it was probably a reflection on people behind me but don't recall seeing anyone ! X

Sue B — Google review

I recently revisited the Castle Museum and noticed there’s been a price increase since my last visit, but the ticket now includes entry for the entire year, which makes it great value if you plan to return. As always, the museum offers plenty of fascinating historical elements to explore. One of the highlights for me was the mock-up of the old town—it's so immersive watching it transition from day to night, complete with a thunderstorm! It really brings the history to life in a unique and engaging way.Overall, it’s a great place to learn and experience history, and the annual pass makes it worth the visit.

Dazneyland — Google review

We had a fantastic time today with my wife and youngest daughter. There was so much to see and do . It's definitely well worth a visit. The highlight of the visit was one of your team members ( Yaz ) who was very knowledgeable of everything. A credit to the overall experience of the visit. Please pass on our kind comments to them.

Wow this was so so good! I took my three girls and they interacted with every single part. Lots of dressing up, learning, there is an outside part with games! We got awesome photos and your ticket lasts a full year. Really recommend

Gemma C — Google review

It was good, the WW1 and WW2 Area was the best part imo, so many cool things to do and see! I certainly wouldn’t say £30.60 for 2 people is worth it. But other than it was decent! Here’s the photos of the WW area!

Amazing museum. So much history. Could spend a whole day here. Brilliant even for adults. Shout out to the old police officer actor and happy retirement

Leona M — Google review

We had a very enjoyable visit and spent 3 1/2hrs looking around, we could've easily taken more. All of the exhibitions are great, but a special mention for the Kirkgate, it's something special and a really authentic experience. The only disappointment was a couple of the projectors in the jail were faulty.

John S — Google review

Excellent museum, with 4 themed areas. The first was a Victorian street. You next go into the trenches of ww1. You then go to the 1960s Street, and finally, you go into the old prison and walk through and into the old cells. We spent about 2 hours in the museum but could have stayed longer. Your ticket is valid for free returns for 12 months from purchase, so we will be returning. We had a brilliant time, and my daughter and I loved every part.

Dale 1 — Google review

Thoroughly enjoyed stepping back in time. Loved the cobble street and set up of shops. Very enjoyable hour. Enjoyed walking to the mill outside too. Very helpful friendly staff.Been back again with free entry for 12 months. A lot better and changed around which was a good. More new sections and interactive displays.

Jackie H — Google review

We love York Castle Museum. You can spend hours in there, absolutely great value for money. We especially liked the Victorian street and the prison displays. There was a female member of staff on the Victorian street and she was absolutely lovely. She was a fountain of knowledge and allowed my son photos with her. We enjoyed the interactive machines that could be used also. Absolutely recommend and will return. The cafe in the museum is reasonably priced with lovely drinks and cakes. We didn’t eat so I can’t comment on the food available. Lovely day, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Aim S — Google review

Last minute idea & it was worth it! The Victorian Street was so extensive to look around! You can buy some sweets there too (cash only). A great peek into history. The period rooms were nice to see with all the artifacts. The WW1 section was very interesting, with lots to see including a little trench (kids size) to go through with something to see inside! The Sixties was cool, especially the fashion and technology "artifacts" 😅 The York Prison was very interesting, with projection videos into some of its most famous "visitors". A reasonable price for the visit. Prams/pushchairs have to stay at the reception & there is always someone there. There is a little cafe and giftshop with some nice gifts to buy from the visit.

Kath L — Google review

Excellent museum. Had a few spare hours in York and this was ideal, all indoors, warm and quiet (early Sept visit 3pm), which allowed me to indulge in all wonderful things/history of North Yorkshire.

Michèle L — Google review

Was a bit sceptical when paying £17 for a ticket but was pleasantly surprised. A good family day out kids enjoyed can use tickets for a year. Some good stuff to see.

If you're a lover of chocolate, then York's Chocolate Story is the attraction for you. Here, visitors can learn all about the history of chocolate and its famous makers, as well as sampling some of the city's finest chocolate products. You'll also have a chance to explore the factories where these treats are made, and experience some chocolate-making yourself if you wish!

Thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Very interesting experience. The chocolate making was the highlight, but it was all good! Picked up some delicious chocolate to take home. Would thoroughly recommend a visit for any chocolate lovers! Our host Rachel was fantastic, pleasant, and very informative, and made the experience so much fun! 😊 Definitely worthy of a return visit in the future!

Alyn L — Google review

Really interesting and fun interactive tour! Delicious samples to enjoy and we loved making our own lollies as well as learning about and watching different chocolate making processes and techniques. Our guide Sarah was absolutely fab! Very knowledgeable with a beautifully enthusiastic delivery of the tour! Would definitely recommend to any chocolate lover!

We were visiting York and went for a tour but it was much more. We had Tyler as our tour guide. She was very enthusiastic and friendly, and we had a brilliant time hearing about the story of chocolate. It was very interactive and interesting and she had loads of fun facts to hear. We would all definitely go again and I can't recommend this enough if your visiting. :)

Worth a visit, kids loved it . Main way into the place it is via a lift. All good if you like them, but as I don't, I got taken up the back entrance up the stairs as I fear confined spaces so i don't do lifts.I was made to wait til last though as my family went in lift which made me feel they was somehow annoyed with me .Maybe ask people before they enter do they like lifts. Not everybody does .Apart from that we all had a good day . Staff was friendly

I find it a very pleasant experience visiting York's Chcolate story.Bought a bar of minty dark chocolate and it was really good. Enjoyed it for the rest of my trip in UK.The store is not that big but has its own distinctive personality. Has their own products and some additional local selections. Good to see non big brand focus.

We had a fantastic time at York’s Chocolate Story! Our lovely tour guide Gina was so enthusiastic and shared such a depth of information about the history of York’s chocolate industry and kept us all smiling and laughing throughout! The tour lasts about an hour and is fully immersive, packed with lots of fun facts and we were given lots of free sweeties and chocolates along the tour which was great! We got to make our own chocolate lollies, and a special mention to Josh the chocolatier who gave us a wonderful demonstration and was very cheerful and engaging. 10/10 would recommend if you’re in York and have an hour or two to spare!

Absolutely fantastic!Every single member of the staff that I spoke with were polite, good humoured and could not do enough for me.I arrived early so ended up with a tour with just myself (I was incredibly lucky). The tour guide was very knowledgeable, open to questions and friendly.I got to make chocolate lollipops, learn about a lot of history and watch a demonstration at the end.Brilliant experience- a must see when you're in York.Thank you again to this wonderful team.

Sarah was our guide for the tour of the chocolate story and she was very friendly and made our time there very enjoyable. She went out of her way to make the tour entertaining and fun for both children and adults and made it easy for us with push chair access. Thank you! Very much recommend a visit to the chocolate story in York.

We had a very enjoyable experience here and our tour guide Harriet was extremely friendly and helpful, especially with my dad and his mobility issues. The samples and the history behind them were plentiful and definitely something we are glad to have done. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone!!

Felicity F — Google review

We did the VIP Masterclass with Robbie and it was genuinely the most perfect time, Robbie was brilliant and made sure we had the most fun and answered all of our 100s of questions! The amount of chocolate we got to make and take home was worth the cost of the class and then some, let alone the full 2 hour experience in itself! Will 100% be returning with other friends, thank you again Robbie (and I cant forget to mention Louis who made sure we had drinks and were made to feel welcome at the start)! We had high hopes going in but it was so much better than we could’ve imagined🫶🏼

What a great experience, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the York Chocolate Story. Our guide Lauren was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and her delivery and timing of the story was fantastic. We would highly recommend this experience to anyone, I mean who doesn't like chocolate?

Kevin S — Google review

What a lovely morning we had yesterday at the York's Chocolate Story. My wife and I last visited about 10 years ago, and they have obviously spent a lot of money upgrading the attraction, and it is money well spent as it seemed more engaging, for all ages. This was our 9 year old daughters first visit and she had a fantastic time, well who wouldn't with all the tasting! Our guide Lee, was very knowledgeable and could tell us anything we wanted to know about any chocolate bar, he certainly knows his Crunchy from his Chocolate Orange. He was really engaging too and his interaction with the live parts of the attraction was flawless and fun. I have a mobility disability and there was plenty of places to sit during the tour, and Lee made sure I was still involved. We would highly recommend this attraction, you won't be disappointed. Your taste buds may be from tasting chocolate water drink, the beginning of chocolate!

Phil S — Google review

Quite a nice tour through chocolate history. We were given samples of chocolate (almost everything could be bought in any grocery shop). Really enjoyed the masterclass - the chocolate was delicious. The place itself isn’t very big so the tour wasn’t very long. There is a chocolate shop on the ground floor. Nice place to buy souvenirs. Wasn’t lucky with hot chocolate drink (Ruby) - tasted nothing like chocolate. The tour itself is a bit overpriced for the experience it offers.

Alena — Google review

Our chocolate tour was brilliant, Josh was our tour guide and he was funny yet engaging. We had some challenging children who talked the whole way through the tour and messed around in the virtual factory. Josh was professional and maintained composure brilliantly and tried to encourage the children to listen to him. There were little freebies and interactive sections and it was brilliant value for money! Josh you were brilliant thank you so much!

BethandMeg H — Google review

Sarah was a very informative and entertaining Chocolate story guide. We loved her clever jokes and her timing with the jokes was perfect. In our group we had a “challenging” group member of the child size and she handled the constant yelling and interruptions perfectly. It must have been annoying but you would never know from her performance. Our hats are off to her. The tour was worth every penny. We will recommend this experience to all our friends.

Jeremy S — Google review

Went into the city centre at lunch time for my York Chocolate Story Tour. All I can tell you guys is WOW. At the start of the tour the man (autistic guy called Lee) asked if there were any allergies so I put my hand up; this was regarding a bag of free samples. Instead of a kit kat I got two dairy+gluten free Nomo bars. The talk was very informative, Lee had lots of facts and his knowledge was outstanding, his talk and the things he shared were ever so interesting and not a single person was ignorant... He really did have us all captivated! There was lots to learn. After the talks we were taken to make our own chocolate lollies, I had no clue that was part of the tour! The man put me on a table with a few other people but asked them to keep the bowl with wafers away from me for safe allergen purposes, and advised I could use as much honeycomb and caramel chocolate curls as I liked. Then we watched a live truffle making demo while our lollies cooled and set, we were allowed to eat as much truffles as we wanted but I chose not to as the flavour were way out of context for me. I would be so honoured and overjoyed to return here.If you get Lee as your tour guide, you will have an absolute blast!

Hollie F — Google review

We enjoyed an excellent tour and chocolate making class. We were guided by a fabulous lady named Annabelle who was incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic, she really brought the story of Chocolate making in York to life! The Shambles is a famous street in York, England that is home to many butcher shops. It was the inspiration for Diagon Alley in Harry Potter, and is one of the busiest places in the city for tourists.

I absolutely loved seeing the old style shops it was very busy long ques for the ghost shop. I would suggest being careful if you have difficulty walking as it's very uneven but a must-see while visiting york!

Love the shambles. Pick the right time and it's an enjoyable experience. Tuesday afternoon on a cold snowy January day and there was plenty of space to peruse and wander, soak up the atmosphere of such a historic place. Great independent shops, beautiful buildings, fabulous ale houses and eateries. Marvellous.

It's quirky and very busy.Try and view at a quiet time to get the full feel of the narrow street. It has a nice but pricey cafe, with two floors. Window seats upstairs to view the Shambles.A star knocked off for the Harry Bloody Potter shop.

We came to see The Shambles and what I would say I love the most is the old architecture! The shops are okay but the main attraction is the antiquity of the structures. It is a wonderfully preserved medieval street and you must remind yourself to lookup because some of the most beautiful things to see are not at eye level.

Historical landmark

Sights & Landmarks

The York City Walls are a historical landmark in England that date back to 71 CE. The walls, which stretch for around two miles, are still intact and offer an easy stroll with kids along their ramparts in Spring.

Great place to take a walk , with good weather ! Can't imagine it was built do ling time ago, it was so well maintained ! There are a lot to see on the wall , we could look over the city area from the wall. They have numerous sitting area that visitors could enjoy bathing under the sun.

Rachel T — Google review

Lovely walk around the walls of this historic city. Lovely way to see it from a different perspective as you roam along the walls protecting the city. The walk is about 5km with lots of steps down and up at the various gates into the city, so not suitable for those with mobility issues. Can get rather busy on weekends too.

Mick S — Google review

One of the main places we wanted to visit in York was the City Walls. I had initially thought it was one complete wall, but it's not; it's split into separate sections, so you'd walk a little bit, then climb down the stairs and then cross the road before climbing back up again; most of the walls I did safe, but some sections had no barrier so it felt a little unsafe, especially in wet conditions. Still, otherwise, I'm happy I went to because i got a taste of the history, and there are many facts to educate on what happened in Yorks past. All are free, and you do not need to pay, but I know there are guided tours available, too, but I don't think you'd need that because it's self-explanatory. I wouldn't say this is suitable for people with mobility issues because there are no ramps, only medieval stairs, and some parts do not have a barrier, so there is a high risk of falling.

Jake M — Google review

We had a fantastic time in The City of York. Was easy to take Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus and only cost £14 for the day 🫠 Only downfall was having to rebook events etc. We didn't get to visit some of attractions because of this. The bus driver was very informative and quite a comic. The 1hr tour on the bus was great as we got to see and gear all about the History and take lots of photos and videos👌Best place we went to was "The Shambles" Great market there and lots of venues to eat at. It was very busy on a hot Sunday afternoon. It was also quite cheap to eat at restaurants.Would definitely recommend a visit here on a bus tour 🫠💯

You MUST walk the ancient walls of York City!Great history, lots of tower stop offs with convenient pubs nearby. Lots of historic views and photo opportunities.A beautiful way to see York.About 2 miles all around. All in the open - adverse weather beware and dress appropriately.Beware of rude people who take pushchairs up there, DESPITE some parts being barely single-file who think everyone (sometimes bottle-necks of 20+ people) should walk backwards or jump onto railings hangibg over edges to accommodate their selfishness! But that's some people for you. Some parts are narrow and barely single file, others have no railings with 8ft open drop sides. Children MUST be supervised! No pushchairs on some parts as it's just too narrow. No dogs. It's not good for people with a fear of heights and drop edges. Not good for elderly and infirm as lots lots of steps. Not disabled accessible.

I love, love, love this city, and its walls are just a spectacular way to view it and get absorbed into the history. If you want to walk the entire length take some snacks! It has some of the most incredible views of the Minster, takes you through all the towers, and offers great info boards along the way. There's also a "brass" rubbing game along the way to build a map of ancient York if you're so inclined (or have kids!).Walking the walls can also give you a break from the bustle of the place, and has some benches along the way, or at least some places to sit. It's a really well done experience for a very special city.

Nice to walk along here instead of through the streets. Nice viewing point of the minster. The part we walked was rather clean.

Amazing history and walking atop the walls you almost forget the fact that you are in a busy city. Amazing. It is free to walk the walls - but you will definitely pay for Parking. Park & Ride is available to cut down on costs.

Kaz B — Google review

Approximately two miles in length. There's no cost unless you wish to have a guided tour but there is no need. There are plenty of information boards on the walls and you can see how York has grown over the centuries. You also get a great view of York Minster and the opportunity to start or finish your walk at various places around the city.

The York City Walls are a must-see for any visitor to the city.Walking along these ancient walls provides a unique perspective of York's rich history and stunning architecture. The views from the walls are breathtaking, offering panoramic vistas of the city's landmarks and surrounding countryside. The well-preserved sections of the walls transport you back in time, making it a truly immersive experience.I highly recommend taking a leisurely stroll along the city walls to appreciate the beauty and history of this remarkable city.

These are kind of defense walls around York downtown, were constructed in the Roman period. We walked through the trails on the walls seeing views of York downtown. It was nice and bright day, we were so delighted that whispered a korean song.I really recommend you to visit here if you go to York in England.

YOUNGHO ( — Google review

A highlight of my day in York! I love that there are a number of places around the city where you can start walking along the wall. Nice seeing the city from a bunch of different vantage points.

Ethan — Google review

Best introduction to York - free and keeps you healthy. Unfortunately the wall does not go all the way around the city and you have to pick it up across roads. You also need to be careful as there are no railings on the inner sections although the drops are only shallow grass verges Easily navigated with plenty of steps.

Wing P — Google review

It is a lovely walk around the York city walls nice little path around it, a great thing to see if you are going to York it doesn't take that long only a few minutes but the one thing that makes it four stars not five stars is that when there is someone walking in the other direction it is quite hard to make room for them to walk past you but besides that is is a great place to go I would recommend if you are going to York as it is near the centre so easy place to get to.

Luke. — Google review

What a fabulous walk, with much needed seats along the way. I read up about the wall before starting it and it all made sense why the wall isn't there in places and why some parts are a lot lower. The entrances are superb along the way with description boards explaining the history. It was great to see the original motte next to the wall. Micklegate bar was closed for the right side towards Marygate for repairs but as I write this I believe its now open. The walk around was fabulous and I would highly recommend you try it. Although approx 3 miles around, allow for plenty of time as like myself, you may stop many times to read the information panels and enjoy some of the unique views.

Walking around the York city walls is a delightful experience. The path is pleasant and offers a great view, making it a must-see if you're visiting York. It's a fantastic place to visit and conveniently located near the city center. I highly recommend it. It was a very pleasant experience.

Really cool and interesting addition to the city. Not something you get to do everywhere and it was fab to see the city from a different perspective.Would be middle of taking young children up there as the side is open to a sheer drop.

A walk on the York City WallsThere are 3 main walls left in York and this is the walk from the cross junction of Jewbury x Peasholm to Bootham Bar. At the cross junction of Jewbury x Peasholm Roads, you will find the gate leading you to the top of the wall whereby you will walk towards Bootham Bar and it is located at the North-East side of York city. If you head in this direction, you will have the city on your left-hand side. You will walk pass historical houses 🏘️, hotels 🏨, beautiful houses 🏠 with huge lawns, Monk’s Bar🍷, medieval wall and eventually reaching Bootham Bar 🍺🍻. All this while, you will have the grand view of York Minster ⛪️ on your left hand side. This to me is the most challenging wall to walk of the 3 as there are several accent and descent to complete. However, that being said, there are railings to aid you. It’s gorgeous to walk this as it is adjourned with history. The Romans actually matched into the city from the Postern 🎠.There are a few things to look out for during this trail walk.1. History2. Mixed materials used in construction.3. Historical buildings along the way4. Beautiful trees and flowers5. A view of York Minster to behold.Pro Tip : Start this walk in the morning at the cross junction so that you will end at the back of York Minster. From there, you can visit St Mary's Abbey and York Minster followed by lunch out side York Minster before walking towards the Shambles. It would be a perfect itinerary to spend the day if you have nothing planned.#yorkcitywall#beautifultrail#gorgeousview

The York City Walls are a remarkable testament to the city’s rich history and charm. Stretching nearly 2 miles, these ancient fortifications offer a unique way to explore York and gain a deeper understanding of its past. Walking along the well-preserved walls provides stunning views of the city, including iconic landmarks like York Minster and the River Ouse. What makes the experience so special is the blend of history and beauty. Each section of the wall reveals different historical layers, from Roman to medieval times, with informative plaques along the way that detail their significance. The gates, or "bars," are particularly fascinating, with their imposing structures and historic significance as key defensive points. The walk is peaceful and leisurely, with plenty of spots to pause and take in the scenery. It’s perfect for both history enthusiasts and those simply looking to enjoy a pleasant stroll above the city’s bustling streets. The surrounding greenery and well-maintained pathways make it accessible and enjoyable for visitors of all ages.Exploring the York City Walls is a must-do experience, offering a unique perspective on one of England’s most beautiful and historically significant cities. It’s a journey through time that highlights York’s enduring legacy and captivating charm.

Burnby Hall Gardens is a stunning park featuring an extensive display of over 100 types of water lilies in two large lakes. The gardens also house the Burnby Hall Gardens and Museum, offering insights into the garden's history and captivating exhibits. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks through colorful gardens, well-maintained paths, and beautiful flower beds. The site is also known for its impressive collection of hardy water lilies, making it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts.

Beautiful gardens with many different areas to explore. The children really enjoyed feeding the fish who were in a frenzy and nearly throwing themselves into the bank! The cafe was pleasant but there were a lot of wasps when we went. It might help to move the sugar from the outside tables and move the bins further away from the diners. All in all, a very nice visit for all the family and we will return.

Burnby Hall Gardens is an absolutely beautiful place to visit. We loved walking around and taking in the sights and scents of the many flowers in bloom. The gardens are well-maintained and offer a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing day out.One of the highlights of our visit was feeding the fish in the ponds. It was a delightful experience, especially for children, and added a fun, interactive element to our walk.We also stopped by the café, and the food was delicious. The menu had a good variety of options, and everything we tried was fresh and tasty. The café is a great spot to take a break and enjoy a meal while soaking in the views of the gardens.Overall, Burnby Hall Gardens is a wonderful place to spend a few hours. Whether you're a nature lover, a family with kids, or just looking for a peaceful retreat, it’s well worth a visit. I’ll definitely be returning!

I thought £7.50 for an adult ticket for a garden was steep but instantly changed my mind upon entry. This is a lovely day out for anyone. A really nice place to find some tranquility and headspace. The whole place clearly is very well kept and no doubt takes a lot of work to maintain. The fish are frenzied and entertaining to feed! I really like it here. The museum is small but informative, not to be skipped.

Tom S — Google review

What a lovely place, used purple pass to get in for free but paid for the fish food... Yes fish food, you NEED the fish food! Won't spoil it by how but it was really funny and nice. A lovely walk around, small but was pleasant. Flowers were really good despite near autumn.lovely shop and cafe. A very good museum of the Stewart legacy, interesting read. Really enjoyed it, but need to slow it all down walking around etc. definitely coming here again as the small town of Pocklington is rather nice. Lovely indeed.

Delightful grounds to walk around. Really friendly volunteer staff. Excellent cafe serving all manner of treats. Thoroughly enjoyable place to visit with fascinating family history.

Simon C — Google review

This was a stopping point with my two young daughters to break a long journey up. We had a lovely few hours in the gardens, the playground and the cafe. We could have spent longer within the grounds but time was restricted with our travels. My two year old was amazed with the fish and even my 11 month old showed interest. The playground is lovely and an added bonus as we didn’t expect a children’s play area. Fortunately I had a towel in the pram to dry the equipment down after last nights rain. There was lots to do in the playground and we could have spent longer than we did.The grounds are just beautiful and very well maintained. The cafe which is separate from Burnby Hall (I assume privately owned?) was very good. The children’s menu is very well priced and the hot cheese scones were delicious. My only complaints would be that I wasn’t checked up on during the meal to order more drinks and the coffee wasn’t the best. Traveling solo and being seated outside meant that I was unable to attract the waitresses attention to order more drinks and I was unable to go inside as it would mean leaving my two children unattended.

A lovely garden to visit. The beds are planted out expertly. My only criticism would be the cafe is a bit pricey.Toilets are good

Peter B — Google review

Beautiful gardens on our doorstep. Lovely food at the cafe, play area for children and a secret garden. Definitely be back, feed the fish for an experience you won't forget.

Fantastic place for a walk around ..there is a cafe on site but also lovely areas to sit and have a picnic.. fish food is a definite must . Also do yearly passes with are extremely good value .so you can return as many times as you want over the seasons to see the beautiful gardens

Beautiful gardens with a wonderful cafe that has delicious food and great service. A peaceful oasis with 2 lakes full of water lillies, birds and fish. Fish food to buy at the shop. Different areas of the garden to see. A rockery, stump garden, herbaceous borders, birds, and the lakes. Lots of benches and spots to relax. Children's play area, a museum about the original owner and toilets. £9 for an adult ticket. Recommended

Julia — Google review

Absolutely gorgeous display for the tulip festival. The food at the cafe was brilliant too. The only issue is the availability of parking, but they are very up front about that on the website/social media so plenty of notice to find alternative spaces. Will definitely visit again!

Sadie K — Google review

A beautiful tulip festival adorned the gardens. A very impressive selection of flowers, with over a 100 varieties and all looking in fantastic condition. The gardens are a lovely setting even without the tulips, with many areas of beautiful sights and very well looked after. The cafe was also a treat with a good selection, tasty food and friendly staff.

MesonW — Google review

Excellent afternoon here with the family. Busy cafe but food is excellent. Fish food available to buy as you buy your entrance tickets. Very hungry fish and will feed from your hand as indicated in the welcome leaflet. Just make sure you wash your wash your hand after, due to the presence of algae.

Graham — Google review

This place is magical. The tulip festive was well worth a visit even in the rain. We fed the fish and walked around the gardens. Mostly flat with plenty of benches to sit and rest along the way. The cafe was lovely aswell.

J L — Google review

Lovely different areas to see. Feels calming. You can't actually access the hall unless you pay for a guided tour. You can buy fish food and feed the Carp and Roach fish.

Gillian B — Google review

Tucked away in Pocklington, but we'll worth a visit. Amazing stump garden, utilising nature's own structure to give interest. The rockery is an abundance of spring flowers and heathers, with winding paths that reveal hidden features. There are large lakes which are planted with water lilies, not in bloom yet but great reason to return...and I haven't even mentioned the magnificent tulips and sensational blossoms. Oh and also lovely tea room with really friendly staff!

Cath M — Google review

Beautiful gardens with plants, trees, shrubs and flowers of varying types. From lily pads on the lake to silver birch trees to a wild woodland walk to rockery shrubs with huge stones to a walled garden.A lovely day out.The Cafe is a bit expensive but it's quality produce and the service is excellent. The small museum is also fascinating.BUT the big attraction has to be the fish! You'd best buy a load of fish food from the entrance and enjoy feeding the masses!Every member of staff we encountered were friendly, helpful and upbeat.

Barrie — Google review

Nice little gardens. Well laid out for easy access if you're not that agile. The lily ponds are beautiful, although being approached by a shoal of hungry carp is a bit disconcerting...! Only marked down for the captive finches that looked pretty sad and some were very badly pecked

Erik B — Google review

I used to go all the time as a kid with my parents and I have so many fond memories. It was such a lovely place but... is it a lovely place for a neuro spicy child like William? Today we found out.We booked tickets online and, as a carer I got in for free which made it what I would class as a cheap day out. It was about £25 for all of us and a bag of fish food each.We had made a picnic to take with us, making the day even more inexpensive. Plus, it guaranteed that we had William's safe foods. There are plenty of picnic tables in brilliant locations plus loads of green spaces to set out blankets. There are plenty of disabled parking bays directly in front of the visitors center, which made it super easy to transfer William from his car seat into his adaptive stroller without risk of elopement.A lot of historical places or outdoor gardens aren't particularly chair friendly, but today we found almost all of the grounds and museums fully accessible. There were some steps going to the bridge across the pond, but we could easily access this via a slope on the other side. There were signs near the rock garden stating we may find it difficult to navigate it with a chair, but we managed it quite well, which is impressive considering I crash the stroller all the time 🤣Disabled toilet facilities themselves were brilliant. They have a movable bed to facilitate in changing. It was so refreshing not to have to change William on a toilet floor, which can be stressful for both of us and desgrading for William. The only disappointment in the facilities was that between us arriving and leaving, it didn't look like they had been cleaned and they were very dirty.I'm surprised at how hungry the fish were considering how much they get fed 🐟 William and Little miss loved getting them into a feeding frenzy, resulting in the fish splashing their feet 🤣The kids both loved the new adventure, it's definitely something we will look at making a tradition. We even treated ourselves to a cheeky on-site Mr Moo's Yorkshire Dairy Ice Cream, which was very reasonably priced. Lemon curd is to die for as is the blue candyfloss! 🍦All in all, it probably cost us including fuel and a cheeky fridge magnet from the gift shop about £45 for several hours of inclusive quality fun. Highly recommend for everyone to go and visit whilst the weather is so nice. Xx

We had a lovely visit here when in Hull for the day. My husband had a lovely chat with one of the men on the front desk as he had years before lived in Hull for 10 years. The art was incredible but after asking if we could take pics we decided not to because of copyright issues. We had a coffee and cake at the cafe in there. ( the cappuccino cake was delicious! ) There's also a small gift shop. A very pleasing few hours especially as it was raining.

Susan S — Google review

Hull's Ferens Art Gallery is a perfect example of what an art gallery should be! Fully accessible, the exhibits focus on women's invisible labor, the shackles and lies of patriarchy, the struggles of sexual minorities and transgender people, exposing the true moral of "The Song of the Sirens," which is "what would happen to patriarchal societies if women were more empowered and had the courage to speak out," with an additional question at the end for everyone to reflect on. It is recommended that art museums around the world follow suit!

Well worth a visit with plenty of exhibits. We went in today to see the Canaletto paintings, one owned by the Ferens and the other loaned from the King's collection - amazing works of art, especially the later one as the detail is incredible. There's excellent food and refreshments in the cafe too with genuinely friendly and helpful staff.

What a great gallery. I’m not much of an art fan as most galleries I’ve visited are a little “dry”. This one has an amazing selection of different styles and the open gallery is absolutely brilliant. My mate and I were invited to sit on a panel , to debate Hull on the change. We were on at 18. 30 Thursday the 25 th of January. We had a great night with an audience of 80 people. There was a singer guitarist and later a dancer on. We had nibbles and a drink. A nother look around the beautiful museum and gallery. There was some beautiful paintings on display. One loaned by our king worth millions of pounds. Two more on show were also loaned to the Ferens art gallery were worth millions also.We particularly liked even loved the maritime 🎨 paintings of the old sailing ⚓ ships because we were fishermen, many years ago. We were invited by the head of the museum two weeks previously and we had a drink and a scone in the fabulous restaurant in there, and we we're waited on by the lovely ladies who also served us. Then we were shown around and what a massive place it is. There were statues old and new and the beautiful young lady who also chaired Our debate, was an artist also called Lucy. She escorted us round with Dom her boss of the museum. She showed us a self portrait and a picture 🖼️ on display which she had done. A very talented young lady. We had about 4 or 5 hours with them, the time flew , but they had to go to a meeting unfortunately. We could have viewed the 💕 lovely 😍 exhibits all day. I for one are going back again , it's well worth it and it's free. So please go if you get the chance. Marks out of ten? A definite ten.

There is so much young local talent in that one space! These exhibitions finish on 1st October so watch their social media for details of what’s coming up, including aCanelletto exhibition.Good toilet facilities and an excellent cafe plus gift shop.Well worth a visit!Update: Popped in today as I knew there was a new exhibition in place: Are we there yet? A quaint but one-of-the-kind museum set in UK's cultural city. An ode to the city's whaling past, this museum is one of the unexpected gems that I've come across during my travels. This museum is located centrally in Hull and hard to miss. It has two floors packed with myriad objects- from gunny sacks used for packing flour, accurate models of maritime vessels, paintings, Whaling harpoons, a blubber pot and more interesting things. It is well curated and makes for an interesting hour or two to learn about this city's vibrant past. Don't miss it if you are visiting Hull.

Aquarium

Nature & Parks

The Deep is one of the biggest aquariums in the world, with over 3000 creatures including sharks and sawfish. It's located in Kingston upon Hull, England, and is a great place to visit with kids or even adults. The aquarium has a variety of exhibits that make learning fun as well as feeding displays for divers to feed the animals by hand. There's also a restaurant on site.

Visited with my 3 children from 5 to 15 yrs and there was something for all of them. They all thoroughly enjoyed their visit. It was fairly busy but we had not problems getting a seat in the cafe for lunch.

Sarah W — Google review

Great day out for a few hours, lots to see and information to learn about. It can be quite busy & crowded in certain areas, so I would recommend visiting during quieter times to be able to take your time & see things properly. I noticed a lot of children & adults banging on the glass of some of the tanks, despite clear signs on the glass not to do it. It has a big car park but you do have to pay. You also get free entry on your next visit for a year, which is a great bonus.

There are big sharks and fish so if your scared of sharks (sawfish, stingrays e.t.c) then I suggest skip that part. Overall really nice and I suggest it for a family trip!

My kids absolutely love it here. There are so many things to see. Lots of information. Interactive things. We got to see the penguins being fed, which was fab. The lift back up at the end through the huge tank is amazing.

Ellen J — Google review

Well worth a visit. Be aware that school parties can be quite noisy. Great exhibits including very large tanks of fish and my particular favourites are the jellyfish - so strange and beautiful. Educational and makes you think about marine conservation.

Linda H — Google review

Brilliant aquarium! It was absolutely stunning and had a vast selection of fish and sea creatures to see. This aquarium is good for all ages and is hard not to love. The tickets are valid for a year and I will 100% be coming back to take it all in again. The jellyfish exhibits are fascinating and the staff are there to chat about the animals if you come at a quieter time.

Dalton S — Google review

My 4 and 7 years old loved it so much! They have some workshops going for the kids as well, which was very informative and enjoyable for the kids. The cafe is big, but we packed our own picnic, I think towards the end we had some coffee from there.

Naba O — Google review

Really good aquarium, lots of species and plenty to see.Entrance is £21 per adult, or £19.50 for over 60s.The ticket is valid for 12 months. Parking available on site or close by, a three minute walk.Cafe and break area on site.Best to book in advance even if you have a season ticket, I think there is a limit of the number of persons admitted.

I visited The Deep decades ago so it had to be a place to see during my few hours in Hull this time.On the day it took a while before the appeal of the place struck me. (I'm more than a few years out of my twenties). When it did, it was with a great force. 👍🏻. You can see the results below. Before I reached the exhibition I pressed a penny coin with my choice of impression of The Deep. I took that photo whilst on the train out of Hull. One area that really caught my eye was the Lagoon of Light. The huge pool (seen from various levels) also appealed to me. At its lowest level I was very surprised and delighted to see a giant moray eel hiding in a rock. Sadly the quality of the images from that huge pool is not so great.Late on it was tricky for me to find my way out, leading back to the third floor but I got there and a cafeteria was nearby. By that time the hot food was no longer available. A sandwich and a coffee were all I needed.I could have done with something a lot stronger than coffee on my way home. I left The Deep shortly after 17.00 but didn't get back home till 23.10 after close to a 20 mile taxi ride to my door at someone else's expense.

Anthony R — Google review

Quite expensive if you don't live anywhere near and are unlikely to return within 12 months (entry is £21 for adults and £17 for kids which gives you 12months worth of entry). All things considered it is an excellent aquarium which will take around 2hrs to appreciate. The only real drawback is the price (and the fact that it's in Hull).

Bill — Google review

Great day out for the kids. Extremely expensive cost me £75 for two adults and two 6 year olds.It is worth going very well maintained and lots to see. Get close to sharks end rays etc.The ticket is actually an annual pass so if local could be good value although adults more likely to want to go back than youngsters. We enjoyed it and will pop back without the grandkids

David W — Google review

An absolute gem.First of all the work that this place does for sea life is incredible. At the end of our visit we went into the engineering room to see how the aquarium was maintained and I was amazed. There is so much work that goes into this, and more and more every day it seems.First of all the staff were extremely helpful. We have an electric car and needed help setting the charger up and the gentleman at the desk actually came out and helped us.There was no vegan food left at the cafe but no bother, I had chips instead. The actual aquarium was incredible. Highly informative from the first life on earth to now.The tunnel was the best part for me. I have never seen a shark before, and I actually teared up a little. Absolutely beautiful creatures. We have a 12 month pass and will definitely be back.

Charlotte H — Google review

Great few hrs to spend with the kids. If you're local/not too far from Hull, it's great value for money as well, as the ticket is also an annual pass. Would recommend.

Elena P — Google review

Amazing range of animals and fish. Entry price is valid for a full year so allows multiple visits if you live close enough. Good areas to view and take pictures of the animals, we didn’t expect there to be such a wide variety! Plenty of information and interactive learning resources about, which I imagine is great for school trips or curious children or even adults.

Excluding M — Google review

Decent, but I'd like to go on a quieter day.A good array of exhibits, and really informative - the cafe is a bit of a let down, but that's not why you're there I guess...In places it was difficult to follow, and there's a real danger of missing parts of it out. The glass lift that travels through the tank itself is a neat idea, but the huge queue put us off, so we opted for the stairs.

Wayne C — Google review

Lovely walk around. Plenty of things to see. Nice restaurant foos really nice. Paid 21 pound per adult but can return as many times as you like within the year. You do have to pay for car park about £3.75 ish.Wheelchair/ pushchair friendly and has lifts.

Carly H — Google review

I LOVE JELLYFISH!?!Me and my son visited recently, after carrying a heavy backpack around it was nice there’s a halfway cafe! It was appreciated! The annual pass is a plus being local! And it’s always a bonus when it keeps the little one entertained!

Tom E — Google review

I love visiting the deep with my now one year old. The tickets are brilliant that you pay once and they're valid for a year. While we're not particularly local it makes for a great day out and we've been twice so far this year

Hull's Old Town is an ancient and charming district of the city that is well worth a visit for anyone interested in historical architecture or traditional pubs. The cobbled streets and Georgian town houses give the impression of a prosperous past, and recent regeneration efforts have brought back to life some of the old dockside businesses.

A fascinating destination to explore is a quaint town with a historic charm that feels like stepping back in time. The Hull old town area is particularly captivating, with its cobblestone streets and vintage architecture. Among its highlights are several pubs that date back to 1729 (picture attached), each exuding a unique character and offering a cozy atmosphere, making them delightful spots to relax and soak in the local culture. The entire region is remarkably picturesque. This visual appeal has not gone unnoticed by filmmakers, as it served as one of the filming locations for the popular movie "Enola Holmes."

Nashra A — Google review

Had a bit of free time.So went wandering around the old town. Most of the buildings have traces of their past still visible and most have been sensibly re-purposed 😀😀It was time well spent and hardly any traffic. The photos are not the best but hope you like them and give you the idea to visit

Richard C — Google review

A real jewel to wander around. You have the Seven Seas Fish Trail and a host of other interesting places, blue plaques etc. lots of places to pop into, lots of bars and cafes for a snack and a drink.

Sean O — Google review

Very nice place to visit. Lots of shops, great Marina and loads of history.

Jean D — Google review

Hull has a wonderful asset, had great fun exploring the old town and also enjoyed a few drinks in some of the pubs.

Chris S — Google review

This is a very popular area with tourists-little cobbled back lanes, access to the river and over to the Deep, the Museum Quarter… it has become a popular location for filming with the streets transformed to war time Britain.

Anne S — Google review

This is an absolutely great place. Really underrated. Loads of great museums (streetlife and Wilberforce recommended) and some interesting back streets with coffee shops and eateries. Can't believe we waited this long to visit such a cool place.

Richandjulie A — Google review

A very interesting part of the city full of museums and pubs. Well worth a visit, especially the free museums (Wiberforce House).

That is great place, to get fru Hull, no even better place than this one over hull. Many beatyfull places in old town. Many pubs and bars. So many museums and the best of hull Marina, I will be come back here any time I'm able to do it . 5 stars thank you 😊 ✨️ 🙏 💛 💖 💓 😊

Dawid H — Google review

Hull's historic old town is a fascinating mix of architectural styles, quirky pubs, old narrow cobbled streets, the old fruit market, and a lovely 'boardwalk' trail alongside the River Hull, the Arctic Corsair (though at the time of writing the ship's been moved for restoration work and to a new home), The Deep aquarium, and skirting the old town and around to the marina.

Rachel T — Google review

Great area to visit that could easily be missed. Some lovely properties and olde world pubs and the usual trendy ones too. We had food and drink in The Lion and Key, and it is so traditional and serves good food. A great visit to Hull. The main city centre is great too for those who love to shop.

Glyn ( — Google review

Hull's old town is a small area of the city bordering the river Hull. It's where the city grew up in the Middle Ages along High Street with warehouses and merchants homes. Because of the old buildings and cobbled Streets it is often used for TV and movie sets. There are a lot of old historic pubs in this part of the town. It is also known as the museum quarter, with the street life Museum willberforce house and the Hull and east riding Museum all next to each other and free to enter.

Andrew N — Google review

There are some very cool pubs and bars around here that are worth visiting. Visit at the right time and you'll catch alot of fun activities for the kids and family. Plenty of museums and galleries here too. A very cool historical part of the city. One of the nicest old towns I've seen in the UK.

The Streetlife Museum of Transport is a transport museum located in Kingston upon Hull, England which focuses on the history and usage of public transport across the years. This museum is a great attraction for anyone interested in public transport history, and it also has exhibits dedicated to horse-drawn carriages, trams and buses.

A lovely place to spend some family time together. My daughter absolutely enjoyed the visit. As we had grandparents with us, she kept asking them if that was the way things looked like when they were little. It was so interesting to listen to their conversation. The museum is brilliant and helps you kind of go back in time. Our favourite thing there was an old fashioned ice cream van.

Margaryta J — Google review

Well worth a visit. I'm well into vintage vehicles and old shops. Being able to see what people used to buy and how much things cost. Not all of it is as interesting but it depends what floats your boat. Anyway it's free entry so you've got nothing to lose. Like I say it's well worth a visit.

Jimmy M — Google review

Having seen many images of this place online I knew it had to be the first place to visit in the few hours I would be in Hull. In fact, I enjoyed myself there so much that I had to reluctantly chop one item from my plans for the day.An added bonus was that I had to walk along the cobbled High Street to reach the museum. The cars, vans, buses and tram were well worth the visit. They have a tremendous array of bicycles 🚲. In recent years I did see someone push a penny farthing along a street in Cardiff. The thought of bicycle polo made me think, in a humorous way, it was a forerunner to the game of shinty. Both sports have a potential for violence though that is not the intent. The highlight was the ride in a Royal Mail Stage Coach (I think from 1868). It is a real bone-shaker with commentary from an imagined driver. ((The ride is free of charge, as is admission to the museum)).I think there were a few sections that I didn't see due to time pressure but I was delighted with what I did see.

Anthony R — Google review

A very different experience this one, particularly enjoyed the old shops, and seeing if I recognised from 70 years ago that are still going today. From horse-drawn carriages to buses this museum has examples of them all. Recommended

M W — Google review

Absolutely loved my visit to the Streetlife Museum! My favourite part was the working vintage arcade machines, I will be back with more cash! This museum is fab for the whole family, with lots to see and do, and lots of immersive and interactive elements. The vintage wagon ride was quirky and well enjoyed too. I would recommend this museum to anyone and everyone 😁 - a MUST VISIT!

Mishka L — Google review

Amazing place only saw half in 4 hours going back asap Staff wonderful, so informative and knowledgeable. Pretty gardens. Only thing missing was a cup of tea. (Managed to get one just across the road). I think they should have a van in the garden selling teas. With monies going to the museum . Take cash for a donation as we only had cards and the machine was out of order to take our donation. Well worth a sizeable donation when entry was FREE.

Marilyn B — Google review

I wS in the car show so ways enjoy going . It a fantastic place also good for kiddies. The history of the items in the museum thanks for asking me.

Brian D — Google review

Brilliant place to visit. Friendly staff, clean and lots to look at and learn. One thing to remember before you go, is to bring some change. There’s a few interactive games and an old car ride, which you need change for.We really enjoyed it and will definitely revisit. Thank you for a great, informative and interesting day.

Lisa W — Google review

It was a really immersive experience. Go to see different vehicles and mode of public and private transport from different time periods. Including what businesses looked like in Hull.I really had fun there, and I'm not yet done exploring. I'll be going back again for the third time.

That G — Google review

This was a fantastic museum for seeing vintage transport, displaying buses and cars in their colourful old liveries! Trains and trams add to this collection, allowing some walk-ons and there is even a simulator that is super cheap. Bike exhibits demonstrate how they changed over time and information is provided on the development, old machinery lets the ins and outs of workings be seen by visitors too. A signal box is even available as a walk-in and rooms have settings replicating the olden days; signs also have been preserved to do this!

K. P — Google review

Lovely place to see a bit of history of life, amazing place to family trip. Visited a number of times. Highly recommend to all. Free of charge.

Jan P — Google review

Fantastic place! Really takes you back and made me realise how much we as humans progressed! Fantastic place to bring children and have that perspective! We really enjoyed it, even had a ride and felt like Shrek, Fiona and Donkey in the horse carriage🤗😅🤣Free entry, you need about 1,5 h! Plenty to see! Next time we'll be there we' ll bring some 20p coins to try on gaming machines, A few of them got me intrigued ! It really helped me understand the English mentality and the thinking outside the box ability that many people here have and use it well!I really recommend it and am very grateful my friend Anna took us there!🤗

Anna L — Google review

This a nice museum with a great collection of vintage cars, cycles and horse drawn carriages. Larger exhibits include a nicely restored Sentinel steam locomotive, an aeroplane and three full size tramcars. The Streetlife Museum is a 12 minute walk from the railway station. Admission is free but there is a donation box as you leave to help support the museum. There were ground floor toilets though we didn't use them. We enjoyed our visit!

Kev W — Google review

Been to Hull a few times but this was the first we have been here, we found while walking about, I have to say was amazing, really big and a lot of history to see, the staff were very friendly and even took us on a ride to York :)

Vicky G — Google review

Excellent place, very interesting, there's plenty for the kids and the best thing is it's free. There's even a ride that shows you how bumpy the carriages were.We paid £1 per hour for a carpark just down the road. There's no cafe but there's a gift shop. Would definitely recommend 👌

Georgina B — Google review

We specifically searched out free museums and came across the Museum Quarter in Hull.Parking was nearby, and wasn't extortionate (though the current road works meant we had to go over a bridge to back on ourselves, but I digress). The staff were really friendly and welcoming, and happy to let us do the kids trail (we'd be considered 'big kids' as there isnt an under 18 in sight). The staff offered us a run down of the museum, and from the moment you walk in there is so much to see! The museum is dexeptively bigger than expected and really interactive - great for big and little kids!Board a tram, a train, or a bus, take a walk down a cobbled street, pop into the ol' timely pharmacy, or have a marvel at the displays of items and branding old and still in use - there is so much to do and see! Upstairs the exhibitions continues and you can take a ride on a carriage and see the bike displays.Fantastic place to visit and amazingly free!

K B — Google review

What a fantastic thing to find in Hull. We only had time to go around one of the museums, but it was fantastic. Also did I mention it was free. We took my Mum and she thoroughly enjoyed going round the old star shops and looking at some of the retro arcade type attractions. This museum is based in the Hull museum quarter and we will definitely be back

Richard M — Google review

Excellent exhibition of how life was back in the day old cars, Lorry's, trams, horse& carriage, penny farthing bicycle, and tons more to see and its "free" as are all museums in Hull.

Vince C — Google review

I visit a lot of museums. Here in England and in all the Europe. I have lived in London for 12 years and I visit all of the London Museums. It's a nice museum, not too big and you have a lot of things to see. Is something what kids will like and for adults will be nostalgic because a lot of the things we use them ,we see them, we play with them .Is something for everyone's and I highly recommend it.Go there and spend few hours ,is free and is fun.

This beautiful park is restored to its 1912 glory and now features gardens, a lake, and quirky attractions such as a tree trail. It's perfect for family fun and makes an excellent day out.

A lovely place to walk around and have squirrels, ducks and geese following you round just incase you have food.Plenty of different walks and interesting things to see.Parking is in a PAY & DISPLAY car park opposite the park entrance and the car park has PAY TO USE toilets. On our weekday visit in October none of the facilities where open (peddle boats, cafe and island walk).

Peasholm Park in Scarborough is an absolute gem, especially on a sunny day! 🌞The park is beautifully maintained and offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The lush greenery, vibrant flowers, and the tranquil lake create a picturesque setting that’s perfect for a leisurely stroll or a relaxing picnic. There’s plenty to do for visitors of all ages. The dragon boat rides on the lake are a must-try and reasonably priced. You can also enjoy mini-golf, although some might find it less exciting compared to other activities. The park often hosts live bands and a small naval warfare show, adding to the lively atmosphere1.The park is teeming with wildlife. Squirrels are particularly friendly and can be fed by hand, which is a delightful experience for kids and adults alike. There are also plenty of ducks and other birds to observe.Peasholm Park is a fantastic place to visit, especially on a sunny day. Whether you’re looking to relax, enjoy some light activities, or simply take in the natural beauty, this park has something for everyone. Highly recommended for a day out with family or friends!

Love this place. I have such fond childhood memories, and I'm so glad that 30 years later it's still as beautiful, if not more so.The walk around the park is lovely, with the Japanese inspired decor. I highly recommend visiting the Naval Warfare display, it's absolutely brilliant for the price and so much fun. The pedalos are a brilliant way to explore the park and island too.

Becca R — Google review

Beautiful kept place, great for kids or just adults, there are pedal dragon boats available to hire, you can actually feed the squirrels as they will feed out of your hand, so make sure you take some nuts!Swans are also on the lake, along with ducks and geese. There is a battleship war played out on the lake, the times are advertised and a small fee is to be paid to watch. There is the center island open seasonally which displays a magical Chinese garden.Well worth a visit.

Debbie H — Google review

Went for the Naval Warfare show and a walk around. The show is great. The gentleman who narrates is very engaging and entertaining for adults and children. Get there early for a good seat especially during holidays or weekends. We were there 50 mins before start time and it was already packed. My 6 yr old absolutely loved it. Little bit of history and a great show. Paid £22 I think for 4 adults and a child. Show was 30 mins. Well worth it.Park is nice to walk around with other things to do as well. Well maintained.Parking is a nightmare! There are a couple of car parks surrounding the park but as with everywhere in the UK during summer they fill up quick so it's street parking where you can.

Donna W — Google review

With this lovely place just a ten minute walk away, I often visit Peasholm Park. With its boating lake, putting greens, cafe, the Tree Trail and of course pretty gardens and water features, there is something for everyone whatever the time of year.It does get busy in the summer, when you can also watch the Naval Warfare event.Visiting in Spring, Autumn and Winter brings their own treats. If you are lucky you can spot a kingfisher, squirrels, tree warblers and more.Toilet facilities are in place, too.Dogs welcome on leads.

Faith Y — Google review

A visit after many years away didn't disappoint. What a beautiful park. Just as lovely as we remembered it, especially the glen walk. One of Scarboroughs best attractions.

Ged A — Google review

I always enjoy a walk around the park, it brings back childhood memories! It's worth watching the naval warfare show if it is taking place, and a walk to the Japanese garden at the top of the island is nice. The boat hire is fun and reasonably priced.

Martin ( — Google review

The park is great, nice lake and the food in the cafe was brilliant. Our toddler loves feeding ducks and the ones there are very friendly without getting to close and scaring her. Would be sooo much better with a playground

Craig W — Google review

Lovely park with disc parking outside. Lots of chairs and beautiful borders. Went on pedalo dragon around lake 2x. Lovely valley walk. They work hard to keep it nice. Island in centre of lake is interesting. Battle scenes on water in July.

Peter S — Google review

Wow! Such a stunning park with a strong east asian influence. We went on the boat ride which worked out £2 per person (there was 5 of us.) We had 30 minutes (roughly 3 times) to spend going around the inner island. The tree trail was a nice walk around the pond areas and cool interactive games which was labelled on boards - you have to use your phone to play.I would highly recommend this place

Lu Y — Google review

How anyone could rate this less than a 5star is unbelievable! The walks around the lake are so beautiful, extremely clean and possibly the most pleasant we have walked.( we've walked many places)Even the squirrels are tame and approached us many times. ( be sure to take some nuts)Plenty if benches to sit and take in the sceneries. We were lucky enough to have been there for the Naval experience which was amazing! The staff are curtious and friendly.Dog friendly, clean restrooms, ample picnic areas too!Could easily spend a whole day there, infact we did!

An amazing park with a beautiful architecture. Includes public toilets too. Always busy but no wonder why. Just the lower bit is with squirrels, it also has rats. That's the 4* reason.

Ondra V — Google review

Beautiful place to visit!lovely walks around,up,through tree lines paths, squirrels popping up to say hi.Wide range of birds, lake with pedal boats if you want a slow ride through the splendid scenery.

Lovely place for a wander with the family.Cafe was reasonably priced but long wait for food (over half an hour). Had toilets but they were not the best. Unfortunately the display was cancelled due to illness so cannot pass comment on that

Charlotte C — Google review

Very nice, pleasant park at the North end of Scarborough. You can walk around in the Chinese gardens, boat on the water in Draggon Boats and even watch different events that are held. Cafe area and plenty of seating to look at all the sites. Watch out for those pesky seagulls that can steal your food

Dennis H — Google review

It's such a beautiful park with great views, walking path through woods on top of that a nice cafe which serve good food in reasonable price

Absolutely amazing!! So much to do, peddle boats were so much fun. Cafe, icecream . Well maintained park. The cafe & boats don't open till 10am but the toilets were open before.

Lauren C — Google review

Had a grand afternoon in this fantastic park. Love the Chinese aspects, the pagoda. The bridge and the fountain/water feature. We all threw money at the washing well bell and made a wish. We saw some of the grey squirrels too. A fun half hour on the water in a dragon pedal boat topped it off. If you're in Scarborough, it's definitely worth a visit.

Maxine B — Google review

Lovely park which seems to put on a lot of events for the public. There is a good community vibe aswell as welcoming to tourists. There is a large pond which you can rent pedal boats and rowing boats very cheaply. The pond itself is very scenic and pretty with lots of geese and ducks. There is also mini golf within the park and a cafe.Great for a wander around or to check out one of the events.

Alpamare UK is a great place for families to have lots of fun. It has four slides, a wave pool, and an eatery. Plus, the spa has a sauna and steam room.

We arrived at 11.45 and went straight in. You do need to pay for parking which I don't agree with but is what it is. You are given a wrist band and you can head to the family changing rooms. All easy access and clean and lots of staff around. The pool and slides are great. There is a play area for smaller children and then you have the water slides starting at 1.10metres. You have to be 1.40metres for the bigger ones. The outdoor pools and view are amazing. You have more than enough time to swim and eat. Food was good and didn't have to wait to long. The only negative I have is the dirty tables in side. Over all a fab day and will definitely return.

Katie H — Google review

Visited yesterday after a 3 and a half hour drive to get there. To be honest, we expected more... We waited about 20 minutes for entry into the pool, once inside lockers are free with use of wristbands to lock. There are 4 big slides, but the little one in the photo seriously needs looking at, it needs made longer before it causes a child some serious injuries. The amount of children we seen hit the end with their legs or fly out was unreal! Be careful if you are visiting and your kid wants on this slide! We enjoyed the outdoor pools, however the bigger one was closed for a duration of our visit unfortunately. Didn't like the gravel on the steps, it hurt your feet getting into the pool. Slides were fun, but expect a good walk up stairs to access them, really enjoyed the green slide. We didn't visit the cafe as thought it would be overpriced. Definitely needs more staff, as when we were finished, we were changing in a changing room that someone had urinated in 😐🤢 the smell was horrendous!!I wouldn't visit again, as it is a long way to come for little reward. However I like the fact you got 3 hours in the pool rather than 90 minutes that others offer. And paying for parking is disgusting when I paid over £100 for entry!

First time been back since reopened it’s very good cost me £60 for 2 kids and me and you get up too 3 hours so I think not bad value for money. Plenty for kids too play and do with and the outside pool is heated. Plenty of seating round the pool as well if you want too sit down. Few decent slides but children have to be over 8 to go on them on their own. I just turned up on the day on a Sunday and didn’t need to pre book.

James R — Google review

A mixed experience. A great facility, that just needs better internal signage and better non-slip flooring. Staff are constantly having to sweep and various areas heavily bottleneck.Timings of visits are unclear.Facility is allowed to oversubscribe, which they would possibly get away with if they adequately staffed it, but some areas are heavily understaffed, such as slides (2-3 staff in total for top and bottom of 4 slides, with poor signage leaves lots of customers confused and/or pushing in etc).Poor health and safety witnessed in all areas, such as dirty changing rooms, slippy floors, drink allowed in the pool etc.An OK visit which could be superb with some common sense basics and better management of the facility and it's staffing.

We absolutely loved it hear! Parking is cheep changing rooms are nice and plenty of space and it's really clean! If u have a really little one be prepared to not be able to go down the slides unless u have an extra adult to mind them. Slides have one hwere u can slide alike the rest are for 2 people on rubber rings, the out door pool is lush so walm and the View was amazing! Also. ......the serve pints and can drink them in the pool 😍😍😍 oh and the wave machine is mint as well! Well worth a visit

My first experience of alpamare and can easily say it was an experience. HahaThere were hundreds of people stuffed inside the entrance and only two (sometimes 3) people serving. Occasionally a man would turn up to tell people who'd been stuck on there for 30 minutes to 'form two queues' but that ship had sailed. In the end we got throughIt's unisex family changing rooms which were messy but easily accessed. However the magnetic lockers weren't trustworthy and someone was crying because their phone got pinched. Luckily I wasn't swimming so I sat with all the bagsThe toilets were horrendous. Honestly I felt bad for anyone who had to use them. The pools looked really fun and even though the slides were a long wait they looked cool. The kids enjoyed it thoroughly and will definitely go backThe lounger chairs were great but could've used some more. The food was acceptable and there were even gluten free options and the staff seemed very knowledgeable about allergens. The security staff were fun and there were lots of people cleaning so all in all I enjoyed it. Just need to fix the state of those toilets and the lockers.

Charlotte T — Google review

Great summer swim. When we had our session the pools and slides were not to busy.We were able to ride all the slides multiple times without to much of a wait. The out door pools were heated and the view over the bay was lovely. No need for lock or money for the lockers, all programmed into the wrist band you get on entry.Food and drink all reasonable.

Phil T — Google review

Absolutely terrible. I never leave reviews but this place is that bad. Staff everywhere but one person admitting people. Booked in advance bit meant nothing as had a queue 3 lanes deep on entry which took over 30 minutes to get to the front of. Then told no lockers and the only changing room had 2 dirty nappies on the floor. Worst of all though was how many people they admitted. Absolutely impossible to swim. If you want to stand in water then this is perfect for you. They have 5 rides which look great but queue was all the way round the pool so me and the kids never even got on. Booked 3hrs and left after 1. Just greed trying to get as many paying customers in.

Brian C — Google review

Amazing waterpark! Went today due to the kids going back to school tomorrow. Place wasn't overly busy. Could get on all the slides very quickly within a few minutes. If there was a line it would go down so quickly. All 4 water slides my kids who are age 8 and 10 loved as much as we did. They absolutely loved the heated swimming pool outside too. Staff were friendly. They were female showers and male showers at the end of your swim to wash. The band's we were given opened and locked the lockers which were really easy to use. Had a fab day and would definitely return. Definitely worth the money for a good day out with the kids .

Stephanie H — Google review

I realise this has just reopened, We enjoyed the facilities. The lady on reception was very helpful as I need assistance and was shown the accessibility room where my husband helped me. Was disappointed to see a gentleman smoking on the premises, outside the doorway towards the infinity pool and also people feeding the gulls which landed on the grass area. These people were eating their own picnic, but was lead to believe people could only eat food purchased on site.

Rags — Google review

Brilliant. None of the issues others had with queueing etc as went on a Friday. Really quiet. Staff were excellent with lots of cleaning going on, food was good and quick. It exceeded my expectations and the kids absolutely loved it, could have stayed much longer. Wouldn't like to go in summer or on a weekend but was a really brilliant day out for us. Paying for parking (on an app you have to download, on a phone they presume everyone has) is a little annoying but I'm not sure that warrants any drop in score.

Neil B — Google review

Was good although they let too many people in so the queues for the slides can be very long, my son waited 50 minutes for one go on a slide. The outdoor pools are lively and warm, loungers comfortable and the changing areas clean.I managed to get a discounted entry ticket, i would have been disappointed had we paid full price.

Sharon C — Google review

Too expensive in my opinion at £23 for an adult ticket. We got a voucher for a family pass for £35 which gave a family of 4 3 hours. We were out within 90 minutes. The place was absolutely packed, barely space to move, long queues for the slides. The changing rooms smelt strongly of urine on the way in, better on the way out, I could smell disinfectant. The outdoor pool was nice and warm and kids enjoyed the waves.

Jane B — Google review

Had a nightmare initially. Had booked the wrong week. Went in and was helped by the best lifeguard Abbey. She changed my tickets to be valued for today. The slides were amazing although had to wait quite a while for each ride. But worth the wait. Also the outside area was great. The two pools outside were lovely and hot water. Had a pint by the pool and watched the sea go by. We will be back.

Steven D — Google review

It is worth going if you get hold of a voucher of some sort. Otherwise, paying a full price is too expensive for what it is. The kids will enjoy the slides, and the adults will love the outdoor heated swimming pool with jets.

Anna L — Google review

Attended today having pre-booked. There must have been over 100 people waiting in the pre-booked queue. Hardly anyone was in the pay on arrival queue. We’ve been here 10 mins and the queue hasn’t moved. This is a disgrace they’re so greedy to take this amount of people. Having just finished my session it’s much busier than it used to be, clearly they’re trying to squeeze more people into the time slots to make more money. I won’t be coming back

John T — Google review

Went with my wife and 2 children at the cost of £70 for a family ticket during peak season, Well worth it I'm my honest opinion the kids loved it and my and the wife loved relaxing in the sun in a pool. We had 3 hours in there (which would have cost that much in a normal swimming pool). The slides were great, and lots of fun.I would recommend pre booking and get in early, so the ques for the slides are as long. They even serve alcohol so you can relax in the sun with a cocktail and it even feels like your on holiday somewhere nice and hot.

John ( — Google review

Pretty good! So quiet, no queues and very helpful staff! Although, lights need replacing on most slides, Olympic run you had to count 60 seconds and cresta run and snowstorm just turned green when you could still hear them so we had to wait just to be safe

Scenic Railroads

The Scarborough North Bay Railway is a miniature railway that takes visitors on a trip through the beautiful Scarborough seaside. It features an antique train, a ropes course, and a historic water chute.

This is a really great attraction to visit in Scarborough. We took our 8 month old baby with us and he loved it (well apart from the short tunnel when it went dark but that is to be expected). There are some beautiful views of the North bay. Prices are good and when we visited in the summer time, trains were frequent (circa every 40 mins). The ride was around 30 minutes (15 mins one way). Well worth a visit

Chris G — Google review

Nice half an hour ride for £5.50. You get to see them use the turn table. It's just still not as good as regular trains. I don't know what's si special about miniature railways. The view out was amazing actually. Unlike big trains, one ride leaves you satisfied and you feel like why should you go and pay for another one.

Ondra V — Google review

Had a fantastic time doing the Train Driving experience. The ride was great fun and the presentation afterwards was interactive and informative, the team were very friendly 👍Great to do with a group of friends or family.

Sam G — Google review

Britain's biggest miniature railway. Lovely experience - my toddler loved it! Very afforfable. Loved watching the old style turn table for the train to turn around. It would have been nice if the staff had told people it was going to happen as we were at the front so got off to watch but a lot of people further down the train missed it. We didn't use the other facilities because it was pouring with rain by the time we got back. The shop is overpriced but to be expected somewhere like this. The Thomas ride wouldn't work but someone came & fixed it for us. All in all, a lovely little affordable experience.Side note: be aware that parking is the other side of a very busy road, even the disabled spaces. My dad is not in a wheelchair but can only walk short distances so we had to drop him off before parking as its a short walk up an incline to get there which isn't suitable for mobility issues.

Clare P — Google review

My daughter who is 6 absolutely loved the ride back and forth to the sealife centre, her dad who is 38 really loved it.😂 I could have spent the day going to and fro. We left on Triton and came back on Posidon. So next time we visit I'm hoping for Neptune and Robin Hood.

Mark B — Google review

This was a delightful way to get to Peas home green park from the Sea Life center and the kids loved it!The staff were great and really helpful with the pram. All had a great sense of humour and were really friendly with the kids.

Sam A — Google review

Took our grandsons on the Santa Special. Absolutely brilliant organisation. All pre booked so no queuing. Great build up before the actual ride, which was great. Several activities to do at the far end including a sleigh ride, preparing reindeer food, and hot chocolate & mince pies as well as a visit to the Big Man, who was lovely with the boys. A very substantial present before the ride back. All very relaxing and not at all rushed. All the staff were great and it was a superb experience for all of us. Great value. Well done and thank you. 😊

Andrew S — Google review

Wonderful that in this 'modern' age, places like this still exist. A real treat and a good run along the sea front. Surprisingly smooth ride too. Friendly staff Check out the victorian boat chute, brilliant. Well worth a visit. Go on, you know you want to !

Db — Google review

Popped in because we had a few hours to burn before we went to alpamare and really glad we did.Jumped on an old timey train that took us along the seafront and was so cool. Apparently it'll go all the way to the sea life centre but we went back to meet familyThe water chute was fun. My family went on twice. There are balloons you can go into and run on the water but I think it's more for children. The kids went on the high wires which was actually quite a challenge so they really enjoyed it.The food was ok and the service was a bit slow even though there was quite a few there but they were all polite.Whether you like trains or not this place was very fun. Worth a visit

Charlotte T — Google review

Fun little ride, lovely service from the driver and guard, super friendly!

Steve S — Google review

Good place to visit when in the area with children. Foods very basic so the kids love it though a little overpriced for what it is. No toilets in site so you have to walk back down the the car park on the main road. Which is fine unless you child is the type who waits until the very last minute before announcing they need the toilet. The train ride was nice and it's an easy way to get to the sea life centre and the beach. All in all well worth a visit if in the area.

Chris W — Google review

Lovely beaches . Park has peddle boats and small gauge Railway. Lots to do in the summer holidays..

Susan B — Google review

We booked a private driving experience for my dad, and from start to end was fantastic. The lads Paul and Steve were great and included the rest of the family in the experience. My Dad had a great time driving the engine up and down the track and showed us around the engine sheds. Highly recommend to anyone. Thanks lads!

Joanne S — Google review

Whilst it was a nice ride, it's a bit overpriced. Especially as our tickets didn't get checked and others (from Sea Life end) walked straight on. To be fair from that end, if you don't look, you could easily miss the ticket office thinking it's just the cafe.

Chris K — Google review

Loved it! Kids loved it! Great miniature railway and bargain price for a return trip. Takes you along to Peasholm Park where you can get off and have a wander round and look at the lakeside attractions. Train times are often enough.

Chantelle D — Google review

If you got young children,it was worth the price in gold, pet dogs are allowed for extra small prices.

Kevin D — Google review

Thoroughly enjoyed by all the family, lovely scenic views of Scarborough's North Bay

Craig H — Google review

We had a really lovely couple of hours here during the summer school holidays. This is the third time we have visited over the past few years. The weather was a bit miserable but that didn't stop us. There is the railway, along with water zorb balls, power boats and little electric cruise boats that you can hire. There is a SkyTrail/HIgh ropes course which is fun for kids and adults. We also enjoyed the Log Chute. There is a small shop that serves hot food and drinks.Just to note that there are no toilets on site so you will need to use the toilets opposite in the car park. These cost 40p (cash and cars accepted)We would highly recommend the North Bay Railway.

Alison B — Google review

Me my husband and 10 year old went on it and We really enjoyed it. It's not a long trip but I don't think the price is ridiculous for the journey either. It was a nice activity as it had just started to rain as well so we did a return journey. Would go on again.

Cat J — Google review

It was nice to see the miniature railway still running, didn't realise it is the longest in Britain, I went on it years ago and just wanted to see it again, lovely experience.

Sea life sanctuary Scarborough is a popular tourist attraction with a variety of marine creatures on display. It's a family-friendly place with play areas and group packages available.

Great day out with the kids for this! So much to see and do, and the adventure packs that they have are great for keeping the kids engaged. The staff were super friendly and the talks were great. We got to see the penguins swimming around, and the kids enjoyed the seals playing in the water. It is a shame we couldn't bring the puppy, but had a great day out otherwise.

Sam A — Google review

This was my first time visiting the sealife centre and I absolutely loved it. There were some amazing displays. The kids absolutely loved handling and rescuing the ‘turtles’. The experience of holding some anemones and shark eggs was brilliant too. The toilets were super clean as well! The only reason for knocking off one star was we weren't aware of any talks / shows happening. If we had a schedule of them would have been super helpful. None the less a lovely place.

Amrita B — Google review

Really enjoyable trip. Feels like it's very up close & personal. You can get very close to the enclosures / tanks even when it's busy which is very engaging for the children. The talks / feedings were very interesting and well timed so you weren't hanging around too much. The interactive stations for the kids were a great idea - my 6yr old loves the turtle rescue area.Lots of picnic benches to sit at. And surrounding views of the Scarborough coast are wonderful. Parking is tight & a tab expensive. £5 odd for 3 hours - although it's to be expected by a council run place anywhere that attracts tourists! Street parking along the entry road is aviialbe if you can get in / don't mind a short walk.Only thing that lets it down is the Cafe which was a bit chaotic - long queues and not kept very clean. Only one staff member on tills / doing drinks but lots of others floating around. Also found it very expensive for what you got. Definitely take your own food if you're staying across lunch.

Donna W — Google review

We visited today on a windy day. It's a really impressive setup. We caught all the talks we wanted to see. All very informative. We particularly loved the penguins and how the keeps knew their personality. As a teacher I liked the naughty and nice boards. Highly recommend and the golf was good too.

Mister R — Google review

Excellent day yesterday celebrating my Daughters Birthday she really enjoyed looking at all the fish, jellyfish the Otters were super cute and the seals highly recommended going great day out for the kids

Kim B — Google review

Wow? How long have you got!I would highly recommend this as a most uplifting experience. Basically just loved every minute as did my adult son who has severe autism and a short attention span!Fortunately, our visit coincided perfectly with afternoon feeding times for the otters, penguins and seals.Wish we lived nearer I would visit every week! The staff were totally invested and dedicated, funny and informative. Striking exactly the right balance of absolute respect for the animals without any anthropomorphism.I'm not a lover of zoos but these creatures were obviously happy. The majority (or all) of the seals had been rescued.6 stars out of 5! 🐠🦦🐧 🦭 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🌟

Toni G — Google review

Visited with my husband and 5 year old son. We had a fabulous 3 hours wandering round. My little boy loved it. The place is spotless, all the sea creature tanks are clean and the staff are extremely approachable and friendly. The talks are great too. We got 2 cappuccino's, bottle of Dr pepper and 3 chocolate bars and it was just over £10, so pretty reasonable and it was Costa. It cost a couple of pounds more entry on the day rather than booking in advance too. Little shop on way out, little pricey like all these kind of places.Overall would really recommend.

Steph N — Google review

A rainy day in Scarborough forced us to seek refuge indoors. This was a great day out and would recommend. Kids had a great time and we spent a few hours taking our time going round. Cafe was expensive and basic for what was on offer.

L W — Google review

Great day out at Scarborough Sea Life Centre. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially when we had a buggy - giving us directions to the accessible route and informing us where the lift was. Tickets had to be prepaid, but there are a number of discounts available via various websites to make it cheaper. Small enough for little legs and the outdoor play area make for a lot of smiles. Definitely recommend.

Amy C — Google review

Booked our tickets in advance and were given a time slot. It seems the aquarium was booked up as, when we arrived early, we were told to wait until ten minutes before our slot.Once we were inside, it was a lovely aquarium. There was a lot of information about the creatures and their habitats and some interactive areas for children, too. There is a rock pool where you’re allowed to touch the anemone and mermaid purses (but nothing else). Some areas were a little bit of a squeeze due to the amount of people there but be patient, wait your turn and you’ll get to see all of the beautiful fish. There is also a small rainforest section with snakes, geckos, ants and other species. We didn’t eat at the café but they had a surprisingly large selection of food, including warm food and ice creams. The gift shop was mostly toys for children with a small section for magnets and key rings. In my opinion, it a little overpriced but at least the money goes towards the upkeep of the centre.I think children would get the most out of this aquarium, with lots of interactive areas geared towards them and information for them to learn.

Marble B — Google review

Really nice day out. They not accepting cash. Is better to book online so is a bit cheaper. Car park is pay and display. You can see how they feeding animals and listen about them from keepers.

Kamila H — Google review

We'd walked along from Peasholme Park, and ideally, if you're not a walker, drive here. It's extra to pay on the day and was shocked that our 15 - and 16 year-olds were classed as adults. An expensive outing. Very informative and good displays if able to absorb it. A costly walk otherwise

Amy N — Google review

I loved sealife! The seals and otters were the best! I really enjoyed all the animals and it was great. Parking was 5.30 for 3 hours I think. The actual ticket for 2 adults was 40 pound but it was worth it for the seals .

Chloe — Google review

The fish was ok, but what really stands out is seals and penguins and otters. HAVE TO make it for the feeding. And sea horses. They even have a rain first section, with a snake, but that didn't interest me as much. I have only been here and Blackpool sea life and they just can't even compare. This one wins easily. Probably because it's a bit further from Scarborough, it's not even as busy.

Ondra V — Google review

Wonderful experience at Sea life. Worth a visit. A Wide variety of fish, jellyfish, turtle, sharks, snake, penguins and seals. My toddler loved the place a lot. Totally Refreshing activity to do in Scarborough. It Costs just £60 for 3 adults and a 4 year old, whichwas impressive. They have cafe inside serving classic hot dogs, coffee, sandwich, ice cream etc.Would definitely reccomend😍

BRIYELA B — Google review

Lots to see. Didn't have a coupon cots us £64 for 2 adults and a child got asked if we wanted to do it online as it would be £2 cheaper. Staff helpful and friendly. We had food in the cafe which was ok for the price.

Samantha B — Google review

Had a great time at the Sealife centre, best part was the otters and penguins. Bev gave a great talk about Willow and Harris, so happy we made it part of our Yorkshire trip!

Katherine N — Google review

Nice place to visit with plenty of sea life to see. Great for kids and adults to learn about the individual fish on show. You get to see the seals being fed which is fun to watch and all the fish looked healthy and well cared for. Plenty of on sight parking and we didn't have no wait time to get in. We would definitely visit again!!

Lindsey P — Google review

It's good and lots to see you can also get hands on with a few limited bits which is fun for the kids but it can get very busy and cramped. Suggest go early if going on a Bank Holiday or halfterm. Didn't stay to try the cafe - way too busy in there. Also gift shop and entrance pretty much in the same place so there's a massive bottle neck of people to get out of the place.

Matt C — Google review

Another fab visit, the kids loved the hands-on with the anemone, and the lady there was really friendly and very engaging with the children. All the staff here are very friendly and helpful. We spend around 3 hours going back through for a second walk around.

During the summer months, dogs are banned from North and South Bay beaches in Scarborough; however, there are some areas where they are allowed during low tide. These sections are clearly marked with signs. Between May to September there is still plenty of space for walking along the long stretches of beach when the tide is out. During winter, both North and South Bay are dog-friendly. Visitors can enjoy tasty fish and chips, ice cream, and coffee at various locations around the beach.

Gorgeous beach to walk on, proper sand too. Had to be careful in some places as there was jellyfish on the sand, but other then that a good place to visit. There was donkeys available to ride for £4 a go.There’s also a dog-free-zone on the beach which means that zone you can’t put dogs on, yet there’s plenty of space for dogs to run about too. We seen quite a few having fun.Beautiful day to see the sea, beach and surroundings.Plenty to visit whilst there such as: beach shops, Ice cream Parlours, amusements & more.

Lovely clean beach with plenty to do through the day . Local speed boat rides at great prices . Fish & chips all great prices and very nice . Scarborough is very hilly so expect to climb a hill or two . Parking at the top and walking down with great views , hard climb back up. Alternatively use the old lift to ease the climb for £1.40 pp

Just love Scarborough always nice to visit and never really changes to be honest. It's a very British seaside town good old fashioned place which needs to be visited. Lovely white Sandy beach running from the harbour to the old spa. Deserted on the day we went but the weather was pretty miserable! Very clean and lifeguards on duty at points too.

David C — Google review

Wide, curving crescent of a sandy beach. Good views. Clean beach, can't say the same re the seawater quality though. Same as many places these days, it's not always advisable to enter the waves. But it's a popular beach and can get really busy. It's great when the tide's out.

Ambrose's R — Google review

This was my first extended stay in Scarborough and the beach is beautiful. They have a lot of food on offer such as the usual fish and chips (plenty to choose from), ice cream, fresh donuts and souvenir stores. We came midweek and although it was extremely hot it wasn't as busy as you would expect a tourist beach town to be which was great. I imagine it's different during the weekend or school holidays. There was plenty of space on the beach. The view is lovely and the beach is very clean. There is a north and south bay, the north bay is more quiet in way of shops and things there isn't much but the south bay is the more touristic of the two but with more to do. The walk from one to the other is very peaceful and scenic with nice views of the cliff and obviously the sea.At night the south bay was very quiet and we enjoyed a walk in the sand and the sound of the waves. As you would imagine there are a lot of seagulls so you need to be careful with food and avoiding "bird waste" ! I was unfortunate on this trip! The amusements are a lot of fun, I would recommend Olympia leisure. They have an enormous selection of - not just games and slots but also bowling, pool, darts and cheap food. For ice cream I would recommend scoop de ville, they had a lot of nice flavours which set it apart from big standard whippy. For fish and chips, the famous fish pan has good prices and huge portions.Overall a great experience which I intend to repeat.

Scarborough Beach is a jewel on the Yorkshire coast, offering visitors a delightful mix of traditional seaside fun and natural beauty. The beach is divided into two bays - the North Bay and South Bay - each with its own unique charm.South Bayis the busier of the two, with plenty of classic seaside entertainment, including amusement arcades, ice cream stands, and fish and chip shops. It’s perfect for families looking to enjoy a day packed with activities. The soft sand and gentle waves make it ideal for sandcastle building and paddling.North Bayoffers a more tranquil experience, with its wide stretches of sand and stunning views, especially around the castle headland. It’s a great spot for a peaceful walk or for those wanting to catch a wave, as it’s also popular with surfers. Both bays boast clean, safe waters, and during the summer months, lifeguards are on duty to ensure everyone’s safety. The Scarborough Spa and the historic Scarborough Castle add to the area’s appeal, providing cultural experiences alongside the beach fun.Visitors have shared their love for Scarborough Beach, describing it as a “lovely experience” and “a slice of heaven,” praising its cleanliness and the variety of activities available.Whether you’re seeking a lively day out or a serene escape, Scarborough Beach is a fantastic choice for all ages and interests. 🏖️

Castle

Sights & Landmarks

The Scarborough Castle is a medieval castle located on the promontory between the north and south bays, overlooking the North Sea. The ruins date back to the Bronze Age and are also associated with an Anglo-Saxon chapel built around 1000. The Roman signal station was later rebuilt by the Saxons, who used it as a religious site until around AD 1000.

Gorgeous views the audio guide is very informativeWe came to watch the knights tournament it didn't disappoint. The sword fighting Was spectacular the sound from the blows sounded painfulThe knights where really friendly and great with the kids signing there flags and answering their questions

Paul C — Google review

Great veiw from the Castle really enjoyed our visit, staff were super friendly and helpful. We was lucky as we had really good weather, plenty to see with loads of information about the history of the castle. Definitely worth a visit, parking is available just down from the entrance, cost was 11.50 for adult entry. This is an English Heritage site so you can be assured that it's very well kept with cafe, toilets and gift shop

Michael C — Google review

Scarborough Castle has it's charms & history which I don't personally think were made the most of by National Heritage, On the flip side there are lots of open spaces for the kids to run around in and the best thing about castles are they are history you can touch! You can teach your kids and make it fun. Scarborough has some beautiful views too. A day at the castle is more fun & cheaper than a day at the arcades. So make a picnic let the kids explore & enjoy the views.

We love our castles so couldn't miss an opportunity to visit this one.You can see the place from miles away as it's located on top of a cliff overlooking the harbour. The castle ruins isn't the biggest but the grounds it's in is a fair size and included in the price is an audio guide that gives the history. The views from all sides are absolutely amazing both looking in land and along the coast and out to see.Was a lovely day and wish we brought a picnic as plenty of space to sit down, and admire the view with the cool sea breeze. There is small cafe and ice cream van at the top and it's dog friendly.

Medieval castle by the North Sea, on top of the east-coast cliffs of Yorkshire! Visited on a stormy day, saved by a cuppa hot chocolate inside. Breathtaking view from the castle walls, the main tower was inaccessible due to high winds. Not so great souvenir shop at the entrance, great conversation with the very helpful staff. Must visit if you are in Yorkshire.

Scarborough Castle is one of the finest castles in the area, looked after by English Heritage. Its history goes back 3,000 years ... every time I visit I'm bowled over by this heritage of this headland location. The grounds, keep and walls are in good condition, and the staff are always very welcoming and knowledgeable.I visited during one the Castle's Resident's Day, when locals can visit for free to enjoy this amazing monument.Fabulous views with an audio tour available as your walk around the grounds. If you love history, and love Scarborough, visiting this place is a must.

Faith Y — Google review

Interesting place to visit and spend some time educating and entertaining ourselves with an audio guide, walking and enjoining stunning views on both South and North Bays and Scarborough city. Dogs allowed on a lead, ours enjoyed it and we were pleased, too, as there are not that many accessible areas like this. We were also watching an egg hunt for kids organised by the castle staff. There is a little museum, too. Some refreshments. I would allow an hour+ per visit

Halyna M — Google review

We had a lovely day at Scarborough castle. We went for the knight's festival which was excellent. Lots of activities on the hour. The castle is nice and great views over Scarborough. I would recommend going on a good weather day as it's quite exposed. The special event was great value for money and we really spent 4 hrs there. Obviously it would have been a shorter visit without the knight event. Food/drink stalls a bit pricey. Lots of well priced toys/gifts.

Sarah B — Google review

Beautiful views over Scarborough and the sea. Friendly and helpful staff. Lots of interesting history with a free audio tour. Great outing if you like castles and British history. Dress up warm if weather is chilly, it's very exposed.

Nicky A — Google review

Beautiful beautiful panoramic views of Scarborough. Lots of level walking, steps to get up towers. Great disabled access, although getting there is quite some event in itself!

Clare D — Google review

Scarborough Castle is a captivating historic site that offers visitors both breathtaking views and a rich tapestry of history. Perched on a dramatic headland, the castle overlooks the North Sea and provides stunning panoramic views of the coastline and Scarborough town. The location alone makes it worth the visit, but the castle itself is a fascinating attraction with centuries of history waiting to be explored. The castle has roots stretching back to the Roman era, but it was during the 12th century that it took on its current form under the orders of King Henry II. Over the years, it has withstood multiple sieges and served as a royal fortress, a barracks, and even a prison. Walking through the remains of the castle, you can still see evidence of its rich past, from the ancient walls and gateways to the medieval chapel. One of the highlights of a visit to Scarborough Castle is the 16th-century Master Gunner’s House, which provides insight into the castle’s role in defending the English coast. The audio guides and displays throughout the site are well-curated, bringing the castle’s history to life. For those looking to enjoy a bit of nature, the castle grounds are perfect for a picnic with stunning coastal views. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or simply in search of a beautiful place to spend the day, Scarborough Castle offers a memorable experience that combines history, beauty, and adventure.

Nice place to visit and spend some time sitting and looking over the bays and the sea. Local parking is disc parking (like a disabled badge and purchasable from local shops) disabled parking is by booking and or calling to see if they have space.

Me — Google review

Absolutely enjoyed this. Booked tickets on-line & got a discount. As I am disabled, but don't have a blue badge, I called and asked if I could use their disabled parking - no problem. I also booked The Tramper - a heavy-duty mobility scooter - booked through the Tramper web-site it cost me £3 & worth every penny.Staff were friendly & very helpful - could not fault. A special shout out to Connor who assisted with the Tramper & I think Julian, but I'm not sure.Site is stunning & covers so much history. There are free guided tours as well. Some areas are off-limits to the Tramper, but you can see most of the site. Views are exceptional.Totally enjoyed the visit & would recommend booking the Tramper if you are disabled. These need to be available in more places.

Elaine W — Google review

Love the place. You can spend all day there, exploring. We were lucky to go on a special event, it was a Joust and it was so much fun.Everyone was so friendly and helpful.

Febe M — Google review

This was a serene place with the castle on a hill overlooking the seas. Reminding of the by-gone days where all kinds of civilization made this castle their own and lost it to the next rulers.Spend an afternoon here and walk down to the beach on either side of the castle. If using public transport take into consideration of the connecting trains and timings. Uber is difficult to find in this town.

Pavana K — Google review

Oh wow this place is amazing , so interesting lot more to see than expected. We walked from centre of Scarborough, lovely walk. The staff were so helpful on arrival, They offered us to use these audiology gadgets , where you could listen to little story’s along the way. My 11yr old daughter loved this, I did too, gave a lot of knowledge on the history of the castle. We were not expecting the truly wonderful walks & views when we got there. Lovely little cafe, ice cream van there too. It really is worth a visit , highly recommended. If you book tickets before going you get 15% off. We just missed the knights show, we will go back next year to see that for sure.

Vanessa W — Google review

Another brilliant castle with plenty of history. Great staff on site who are more than happy to share there knowledge with visitors. Plenty of wide open spaces for children to run around in. The views over Scarborough from the castle are amazing. Definitely worth a visit.

Chris W — Google review

Wonderful guided tour with dave. Loved it. The castle is well worth a visit, me and my dog enjoyed it and the views are breathtaking, a great place to sit with a coffee. There was even a friendly pheasant to feed.

Rebecca D — Google review

I really enjoyed the visit and it was well worth the walk up to it from the seafront. The views were amazing and compared to how busy it was on a bank holiday Monday along the beach it was a great escape. The location has toilets, a little tea hut and ice cream van along with the standard English heritage shop. There is also a little museum on site but we didn't get a chance to pop in but well worth a stroll around the ground just for the amazing views of Scarborough and the headland from the viewpoints.Would definitely return.

Kirsty M — Google review

Brilliant morning out, loads of beautiful view points around the grounds Lots to explore around the castle and in the castle itself. Good facilities - toilets and cafes all nice although a little pricey. We got 2 kids meals and at £5ish each the quality was amazing. All staff were friendly and helpful.

Honeysuckle Farm

Farm

Sights & Landmarks

Children's farm

During a recent visit to Honeysuckle Farm, I had a fantastic day out. The prices were very reasonable and there was an abundance of activities to enjoy. It's important to note that the indoor options seemed limited, so a clear day or waterproofs would be advisable. Nonetheless, the animals appeared well cared for and the play areas were excellent. The farm also offers the option to purchase animal and fish food at the front desk.

Been a few years ago and came back recently. Much has changed, I think. So many play areas for the kids and a great walk around, well laid out between play areas, den making, picnic areas and the animals. Expected to spend around an hour and had around 3 1/2 hours in total! Great day out for the family

Adam J — Google review

Love this place! It's a great day out for the kids (and adults). Reasonably priced £7 for adults I think, £1 for food to feed the animals.Great walk around with lots of little play areas, playground frames, wooded den areas, and underground tubes to climb through. Hay bail climbing / maze area for kids to charge around on is a great idea!Lots of farm animals & fish to feed - even though it gets busy it's big enough for everyone to get involved.Plenty of picnic benches dotted around, toilets and wash basins were clean and easily accessible.Cafe serves basic food but is nice and reasonably priced if you don't take your own food in.Plenty of parking also. Really great half a day out.

Donna W — Google review

Well worth the entrance fee! Good old fashioned farm fun, and reminded me so much of a place I used to go when I was little (about 30 years ago). There’s loads of friendly animals to feed, a huge hay barn for the kids to play in, and the fish are weirdly fun. The walk round the farm isn’t too much for small legs, and there seems to be parks everywhere. We didn’t go in but the cafe seemed very reasonably priced.Highly recommend.

Katherine L — Google review

What a GREAT little farm this is. Plenty for little ones to do and see.We didn’t expect to much and we where pleasantly Surprised. Easily spend a couple of hours here.Den building in the woods, the big drain slides, the fantastic fish and the Maze. The animals have plenty of room and looked happy to be fed and stroked. The straw bales are a great idea. The cafe - homemade and the best egg sandwich I’ve ever had!!! Great selection for children and adults, fresh fruit, yogurts.Staff were so friendly and happy to help.

Faithbop1 — Google review

Great place to visit for families. Hidden gem, and loads to see and do. Well worth the entrance fee. £7 for adults, £6 for children. Take a picnic, or use the on-site cafe.

Alan M — Google review

Great place to take the children! I've been visiting this farm since I was little and used to take my children when they was little and I still love interacting with all the farm animals to this day. The staff are always friendly and the cafe is nice and clean with home comfort food.

Jessica S — Google review

We had a great time here. There was plenty to see and do. We got some of the animal food and fish food for £1 a tub, and the kids enjoyed feeding the goats, lambs, and koi carp. We also saw cows, shire horses, a donkey, pigs, chickens, and a few other small animals. The kids really enjoyed the hay bales, where the younger kids could run between them, and the older kids (and adults) were running on top of them. We stopped by the cafe for food and had cakes and freshly prepared sandwiches. There are plenty of playgrounds dotted around the farm, and I would definitely recommend a trip here.

Dave P — Google review

Wonderful labyrinth of things to do and see, beautifully maintained, friendly relaxed atmosphere, breathtaking environment.

Sophia H — Google review

An absolutely fantastic day out with lots to do. Feeding the animals and the fish is great fun and den building in the woods keeps the kids occupied for hours. The cafe has a lovely selection of food including homemade treats with plenty of seating and lots of outdoor benches for a rest or a picnic if the weather is good.

Becky F — Google review

Love it here! Kid-friendly, animals are always hungry and never get bored of a good feed! Defo recommend. £7 to get in for adults and £1 for fish and goat food

Gemma — Google review

Honeysuckle Farm is a fantastic place to bring your children. It's great fun and educational. Children actually get a chance to get up close and personal with animals some They've probably never seen before. There's a barn and outdoor play area where they can run Wild and let off steam. There's a nice, very reasonably priced cafe. Highly recommended.

Andrew N — Google review

A great place for children (and adults!). We took our friend and her two children here after hearing good things about it and weren't disappointed. There was lots to do, great interaction with the animals and very good value. We especially liked playing on the hay bales! A really good, simple idea that the children loved. We'll definitely visit again.

Jonathan H — Google review

I had a lovely day here with my grandkids. They are 4 and 2yrs old and thoroughly enjoyed it. There's so much to do from feeding animals to playing at the parks and on the hay stacks and finding our way through the maze. We took a packed lunch and stayed for over 4 hours. It's also very reasonably priced

Lee S — Google review

First time visiting this weekend, really not sure why we haven’t been before but we had an amazing day out.Prices where extremely reasonable and there was so much to do. I didn’t see anything indoors other than the hay bales so you would need a nice clear day or some waterproofs.Animals all looked really well looked after and the play areas where great. We got some sandwiches for lunch and they where lovely and fresh.

J K — Google review

First time we've visited and managed to get a lovely sunny dry day. The whole family loved every minute.

Sara M — Google review

The kids love going here!Start by burning off some energy chasing around the haystacks, building dens or running around the outdoor tunnels and slides. Before leaving the haystacks make sure to feed the goats! They are crafty and may steal the cup so hold tight. Food can be bought on entry for only £1 and you get plenty! Grab a pot for the fish too!The stroll around is nice, a cool mini maze and plenty of routes to take around the farm. Plus theres a few large ponds with lots of fish!We took a pram with us and never found ourselves stuck at all.We finished in the cafe which is really affordable too, plus the staff are really nice which is always welcome! There’s also plenty of benches plotted about the farm so a picnic is always a possibility.A brilliant little trip out!

Tom E — Google review

This is going to sound funny as the highlight of my visit but I have never seen cafe chairs so thoroughly cleaned in my life. It was so impressive and reassuring to see!! We love a trip to Honeysuckle farm and are always glad to see the season for opening has returned. The children love the endless things and animals to explore and much appreciation goes to the fact you can enjoy a picnic there so the spare spends can be used on icecreams after a long day running on the hay bales!

Hollie H — Google review

Great place to let your kids run around and play. Feeding the goats, sheep, donkeys, cows and fish. A fun maze. Play tunnels and slides. When all done stop by the cafe. Great selection of food and drinks. Friendly staff and clean tables. Also outside tables if weather permits. Have fun.

Michelle P — Google review

Fantastic day out for the kids 💙 Lovely tea and cakes too 🥰 Get plenty of fish food on the way in, that was my sons favourite part.

Jess L — Google review

Fun little farm, has all the typical stuff you'd expect; goats, sheep, horses, pigs, donkeys, plus a large pond with fish you can feed. It was really muddy when we went which isn't surprising given the weather, wellies were a must. Paths could really use some gravel. Little cafe with ice cream on site.

Bodies of Water

Hornsea Mere is a significant glacial freshwater lake in Yorkshire, formed during the Ice Age and now serving as a bird sanctuary. It provides a nesting habitat for various bird species such as reed warblers, little egrets, and kingfishers. The lake offers opportunities for rowing, sailing, and fishing for pike and carp. Additionally, visitors can enjoy the town's Leisure Centre with swimming pools and a cafe overlooking the promenade.

What an amazing place to visit. The entrance is hard to find but worth the effort. It looks nothing much from the road but opens up to this huge freshwater lake with wild fowl and boats to hire and even an organised trip. There is a cafe but it's not always open try Cafe Eden opposite the entrance for a great all day breakfast or takeaway sandwiches

Ann W — Google review

Some people go to Hornsea and never leave the beach but I do think they are missing out. When I go to Hornsea I walk a good long way out along the beach before heading back via the Leisure Centre. I then head to up to the old railway line, walk the length of the Green Corridor then round to Hornsea Mere. It’s usually pretty quiet at the Mere but there’s always something new going on see. If you need refreshments there’s a cafe where you can also buy ice cream. It’s possible to go out on the water or you can simply sit on one of the many benches.Lots of information boards.

Anne S — Google review

Hornsea Mere ranges from bitterly cold and desolate to a fountain of wildlife in a suntrap. Flowers and ice, geese and woodpeckers, fish and stag beetles, gentlest of wind through branches or howling storms. A wonderful, ancient place

Katherine L — Google review

The Mere is nice, the Mere café not so good anymore...last time we visited the menu was fantastic...they don't sell much in the way of light food meals ie: Salads, lasange, jacket potatoes...No salad sandwiches! Just chip butties, cheesy chips...and breakfast sandwiches but Only up until 11am we found the drinks expensive too.

Pam — Google review

Not sure if we missed something but having parked near the yacht club following the only brown sign we saw there was NO route around the mere, just a short path coming back on itself. Maybe we should have parked somewhere else but there were no signs whatsoever. The visit Hornsea website doesn't say much about it, except that there is a 6 mile walk around the mere (which we couldn't find) a cafe (open only at weekends) and a visitor centre (no sign of that, maybe in the closed cafe). Very disappointing.

Ruthie M — Google review

Cafe ,small walk & boat club, rowing boats here,,lots of birds ,take binoculars with you. Interesting history & thoughts while here. Weather heavy rain while we here but went in cafe which lots of choice. Look at for signs ,don't listen to sat nav. Tricky hidden lane really, blink & you have gone past it.

Karen — Google review

Glacial lake which best reflects the natural Holderness region before the drainage of this land by the arrival of Modern Man and Cistercian Monks some 1000 years ago. The drainage and diversion of fresh water to sea and reservoir has continued ever since transforming the region from bountiful wetland of littoral people to dry Farmland and road. The lake remains accessible to the public and is Yorkshire’s largest fresh water lake. Rowing boats are available to hire for around £5 per head per hour which is highly recommended, motor boat trips are also available. We opted for one of the many rowing boats, out on the water the scale of the lake is felt in each pull of the oars, the friendly boat hire crew advised us to wrap up warm and reserve time and energy coming back to the boat house as a cold easterly blew in from the North Sea which resists progress, thankfully this was still easy going and an excellent way to connect to the landscape and people of the past, sailing the boat like the regions ancient tribal people the Parisi rekindling ghosts of our wild spirits as many bird species fly and float along with us through air and water. After the boat ride, public paths are ready to explore around the lake or take it easy & rest on one of the many unique and creative seats and benches placed conveniently around the boating area taking in the view of lake and big skies above. Great place to visit as an alternative to the beach, ideal for a picnic and relaxing in fresh air or indoors a visit to the cafe at the boat house. The lake ideal for a dry summer day but enjoyable views all year round.

Lee W — Google review

Hornsea Mere is the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire. Covering 467 Acres it is 2 miles long and 3/4 of a mile wide. On average it's about five feet deep although in some places it can be as deep as 12 feet. It is very popular for sailing there is a club based here. It is also a great place for rowing you can hire rowing boats here. There is a nice little cafe by the jetty. It is free to enter with free parking. It's also a good place for bird watching. Dog friendly it's a nice place to visit.

Andrew N — Google review

This is a beautiful part of the world that is worth a visit. Located by the coastal town of Hornsea the Mere has a large free parking area that is slightly uneven so disabled visitors will struggle slightly with the uneven loose surface of the car park. There is a gift shop and a tea room on site that is worth a visit but they are a little on the expensive side. There is also a boat yard that offers boat rides on the Mere at a reasonable price . All in all a worthwhile visit especially if the sun is shining.Remember to take some bread with you if you like feeding the ducks and geese.

Andy ( — Google review

A beautiful place to Fish 🎣Rates and tickets were very affordable and we had a great day 👍

Fire T — Google review

This is a beautiful place to visit and explore. However when we visited, the cafe was closed and no boats were running. I believe the owners were on holiday

Chris G — Google review

Great if you want to have a lovely walk around the mere. Lovely wildlife. There are boat rides on the lake, and a small cafe for a brew. If you take your dog, it has to be on a lead, because of the wildlife. Nice stroll though.

Christine H — Google review

Came here the other day to go fishing. The guy who saw to us was rude and had bad customer service skills. Very miserable. Also was fishing for over 8 hours with no bite. Seems to be less and less fish in the mere. Also very over priced for 2 people fishing and to hire the boat it was £30

Liam — Google review

Visit this place as much as possible, I visit a family bench and plaques, whilst there, so I also have quite alotnof memories here too. It's always nice, clean, and tidy. The site looks well-maintained for its age, The cafe isn't open on Monday or Tuesdays, I get staff need a day off. Those pot holes could do with looking at, though, unless you know where they are, you are in for a bumpy ride.

Outlet mall

Hornsea Freeport is a shopping paradise with over 40 stores offering popular brands at discounted prices. Visitors can enjoy various activities like Bugtopia and indulge in delicious treats such as hot chocolate with whipped cream and mini marshmallows at the numerous cafes. The mall provides ample seating areas surrounded by lush greenery, giving it a park-like ambiance combined with the convenience of shopping. Other amenities include public restrooms and free parking.

Nice shopping walk, good layout, good food, very pleasant afternoon. Some good bargains in the premium brand shops and plenty of shops. Dogs allowed in the centre, some shops and part of the cafe. Plenty of outdoor seating. Very leisurely shopping.

Philip J — Google review

I would say 90% of the outlets were empty. There seemed to be a lot of people about so I can only think they were there for the cafe or play area. The cafe was very good, nice food and drinks. Just a shame the rest of it was a waste of time. Which is a shame because it could be so nice!

Georgina - — Google review

So disappointed. I know covid hit everybody etc but less than half the retail units are occupied and those that are are mostly clothes! How about offering low rates for pop up shops or community shops etc? Before long this site will be bought and built on for more holiday homes!

Katrina P — Google review

I will admit there are empty shops here however…… I have recently spent a really enjoyable morning at the Freeport and really do rate it 5* for anyone on holiday or particularly families. Took my nephew (age 7) to pottery painting at The Potteries, we then went to Bugtopia before having a refreshment stop at Hopfrog where we also enjoyed a look around and game of Jenga with our hot chocolate & milkshake! Great to have such activities on the doorstep and all inside if it is a rainy day! If we had longer we could have popped to the Beach Cove too.I often pop up to Poundstretcher and The Works and although more shops would be amazing the ones that are there often have some brilliant bargains in!

Andrea K — Google review

We called on Sunday 20th December... many units were empty and some were closed. The Works was open as was Pavers and few of the designer clothes shops - but it felt very empty. In fairness the weather was wet and very windy so it would have put a lot of people off. There were some pretty Christmas decorations and Christmas music was playing so they had tried hard to create a festive atmosphere. Maybe a live choir or band may have lifted the atmosphere a notch?

Alex H — Google review

My memories of here were of a very busy and vibrant shopping venue, sadly it seems that a lot of shops are closed and the atmosphere has ghost town feel about it - such a shame. The shops that are open are still great and some lovely bargains to be had.

Fiona N — Google review

Avoid at all cost, waste of journey and money. Bad variety of shops with many closed and the Freshco gourmet cafe is absolutely horrendous. Bad expensive food which would be more appropriate serving in a prison and not to the public. Hornsea Freeport should pay the public for visiting.

Richard H — Google review

Lovely place for a wander round. Some very nice shops. Delicious breakfast at the cafe. I think a home decoration store would do well here.Nice gift shop and soft play place for children. Free parking so you don't need to rush around, which is nice, plus clean accessible public toilets.

Heather E — Google review

When you look at the tourist information, about this location,it does not reflect the true atmosphere of the location, there is free parking, then you enter the site and it is just so quiet, there is lots of shops, one would imagine because of the name there would be pottery activity going on, but there isn't,the place is huge but it's got lots of shops that is no different to a high street. very disappointed.

John O — Google review

This used to be a good place but alot of the shops are now closed and not used . The East Yorkshire council are probably charging too much rent that the shops find it too hard to justify being there. If only the council would be sensible and fill the shops at a lower rent and more people would go and spend money there but as it is its a failing retail park due to greedy council . Such a shame

Janet N — Google review

This place has sadly been dying, and a recent visit showed that things are no better. Most shops are now vacant, while the others have been discount clothes stores. There's a sweet shop that is overpriced, and I witnessed multiple counts of bad food hygiene. There is a great discount gift shop and a nice pottery cafe .

Terence B — Google review

Fish counter is next to the entrance. It always stinks. When I worked at a supermarket many many years ago, we were taught fish should never smell. The clientele are a little rough around the edges which can lead to not the best experience. The cafe isn't the cleanest but the food is decent.

Keith R — Google review

Come here regularly as nearly all the shops welcome dogs and the staff are really friendly, admittedly there are lots of empty shops but you don't have to pay admission or parking so if you just want to wander around for a while, have a coffee or lunch, visit a few shops that nearly always have good deals then you can spend a couple of hours here, it's not crowded and a nice place to chill out without worrying about parking fees, or leaving your dog alone. It's within easy reach of the beach and Hornsea town, can understand why people are dismayed but this is a small place and you really need to look for positives rather than negatives as it costs you nothing to go there. I like it and so should you, I feel. But that's just my opinion.

Allison H — Google review

A brilliant place with lot's of parking spots and many modern shop's covering everything that one would require in the shopping square there is plenty of seating to rest one's legs, or if it's a drink you want then there's three cafe's getting around in a wheelchair no problem at all.its well worth a visit today 17th September 2020 we had a ham and cheese toastie with a side salad with a hot drink at the brewers kitchen and deli in the centre of Hornsea free port, tables and chairs had been arranged outside but there was seating indoors to a track and trace system was in use along with the sanitising station keeping everyone safe the food was fabulous worth a second vist 7th of Aug 2024 it's some time since our last visit and what a difference between previous visit a lot of shop's closed including cafe's it requires a well known shop to move there and get the crowds back failing that a miracle so sorry to see it as it is today

Geoffrey W — Google review

Car parking was good as it was sparsely populated, the shops are a little hit and miss and many are closing down.. the coffee bean shop is worth a visit if you like coffee! Mostly clothes shops with minimal stock.. sad to say(and see)but it has seen better days.

Martin T — Google review

This used to be a lovely place to come. Hardly any shops or coffee shops open now so wouldn’t waste your time coming! We were here less than an hour and left. Really needs something doing here, it’s such a shame.

Natalie B — Google review

Great coffee place selling flavoured coffee beans- it's worth the visit just for this! The Bug place is also great. Unfortunately many shops have closed or left now. Some sports shops left.

JL B — Google review

I've been coming here for approximately 8 years and have noticed a decline. A lot of businesses have closed down, so there are a lot of empty units. Both big food outlets have gone. It's a shame because it could be a lot better.

Tim S — Google review

Lovely place to walk around, there are a few empty units but still plenty to visit. The staff in the shops are lovely and friendly and the parking was easy to navigate although very full the day we visited.

Would not visit again hardly any shops the only cafeteria was a Thornton's. Went in husband had a toasted tea cake disgusting. I had scrambled eggs on toast disgusting and granddaughter of 15 mths I ordered fish goujons with chips and peas I took this straight back and got a refund the chips were like long thin crisps was to told they are rustic chips. Well not nice for children. Glad I won't be visiting again worst experience ever. If I didn't have to give a start it wouldn't have got that.😡

Hornsea Museum may appear small from the street, but it is packed with engaging interactive displays and a new exhibition dedicated to Hornsea Pottery. In addition to its extensive collection covering various aspects of local history, the museum also hosts special craft displays and events for children during the summer. The Victorian house within the museum is particularly popular among visitors. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, making a visit well worth the admission fee.

Great place with some hands on exhibits with rooms set up in period. Interesting collection of Hornsea pottery and story of their demise. Recommended

Just decided to pop in for a quick look whilst passing and boy am I glad I did.It only cost £6 to get in and got a full rundown of the place from one of the amazingly friendly volunteers. There is so much to see and it is so well presented and preserved. I could not believe they could cram so many things in there. The history is so interesting too. This place is a real MUST SEE!

Kevin M — Google review

A fantastic little museum covers many aspects of hornsea life not only the pottery

Robin H — Google review

my first visit In the museum was last week. Was pleasantly surprised how big it is, so many Interesting things to see, it looks small from the outside, but it's like a Tardis. I will go back with the grandkids. Its brilliant, well done all involved

Patricia A — Google review

Hornsea museum is a really fantastic museum for the town. Looks small from the outside but goes right back with a courtyard behind it. The Victorian house was my favourite part of the museum. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the museum is well worth the fiver to visit. Fantastic exhibitions, lots of different things to see, knowledgeable staff and lots of things for children to do as well. Well worth a visit.

Benjamin W — Google review

Lovely museum, very informative.Hornsea pottery exhibition was very good, was a little dissapointed in the shop,

Sam S — Google review

Unexpected gem in the centre of Hornsea telling the story of the town with an excellent Hornsea Pottery Exhibition. Not much to look at from the outside but it opens up with some superb displays in authentic settings inside and out with surprises around each corner. Freindly volunteers, brilliant visit.

Brilliant museum on local life. When inside its like hhe tardis.

Great place to visit for great history of Hornsea pottery , loads to see and do,highly recommended for a day out.

Sean L — Google review

Brilliant place to come as a group of adults but especially good with children. All get something out of it, but in the main different things. The people there are well informed, helpful and willing to help. The farmhouse side has roots as well as farm implements a proper wash room and scullery, beautiful kitchen and sitting room, that will bring back memories for some of the older people who visit. There is also a Hornsea pottery side, also interesting, fun to remember when you had that pattern of Hornsea crockery. Highly recommended

Tammys M — Google review

Lovely staff, very knowledgeable about the family, the farm, the businesses and the area..interesting place , beautiful hornsea pottery display.

What a lovely museum. Found it by chance. Kids enjoyed finding the hidden mice and dressing up. Well worth a visit

Excellent place very interesting

A S — Google review

Behind the small entrance area lies an extensive, beautifully laid out and fascinating local history museum. There's a schoolroom where children can write with chalk on slates, and a recreation of the railway station with a functioning train set. Old photos of the town, a tribute to service men and women, blown up copies of old newspapers, a whole farmhouse set-up... We (three adults) loved it. AND (extra points for this) places to sit down. Well done everyone concerned.

Liz P — Google review

This place is great. It's got a small charge. But under 5s are free. We went in Sheffield half term which was different to Hornsea half term (October). We did a little mouse hunt which the kids really enjoyed. The school room is lots of fun. The best bit is the toy room. There's loads for kids to play with and you can get dressed up too. Even in the rain, this place is great.Just rock up and pay on the door. There's paid parking nearby and lots of charity shops on the main Street too so you can make a day of it.

Lu H — Google review

Excellent way to spend a couple of hours. Stuff for kids to play on and do. Oldies can reminisce about the stuff on display..Well worth a fiver

Carole O — Google review

This place is a little gem of a place that I bet a lot of people just walk past but let me tell you this is one place in hornsea that is really worth a visit. If you like thing of a bygone era that have ben kept in tip top condition and you like how communities worked well you will love it here. Some of the rooms have audio description.it was a simpler life back then and I think we tend to forget our heritage. The entrance fee is very cheap and the ticket last you all season so you can come and go as many times as you wish. There is a play area for the kids in the garden and don't let this building fool you as it's like a tardis, far more going on inside than the fascade would have you think. Truly worth a visit

Brian H — Google review

Very nice museum.

Sheila G — Google review

It was quite basic, and it had a few facts. There wasn't much interaction (a few toys in the children's room, and a partially broken train station display). There were two rooms with audio description, to describe the items in the room.

The Garden Tea Room is a lovely tea house with a pretty outdoor seating area in Bridlington. The tea house has friendly staff and good value for money. The tea house is visited by locals and tourists alike, and is a pretty spot to enjoy a cup of tea.

Went with a friend to the model village which is next to the cafe, she had never been and really liked it. They have added so much since the last time I went. Loved the scouts. The cafe is very small but the food was really good. They do have a lot of outdoor seating though.

Tina C — Google review

Early days at the Garden Tea Room.Sadly the coffee machine broke down just as we were waiting. The manager was very apologetic and we had a pot of tea instead. These things happen. We will be back to try the breakfasts as they looked very nice. There's a few tables inside and more tables outdoors.Disabled access throughout.

Very nice indeed. Friendly staff. Lovely mocha and toast. Good value for money and a pretty outdoor seating area. I shall return soon.

Part of the Bondville model village at Sewerby which has now reopened after an amazing revamp. You can access the cafe for free if you want to just sit and relax in pleasant surroundings, but make sure to go round the model village at some point. We enjoy it so much that we bought an annual pass and always notice something different or new in the village.

Steve J — Google review

Fab little tea room in Sewerby attached to the model village. Really good coffee and all cakes/scones etc were home baked. Covered outdoor seating if you have a pup.

Martin R — Google review

The garden tea room and model village. Great little place. Very reasonable prices and good quality food. The model village is very well presented and is dog friendly.

This place is fab. Went with friends we had visiting, although we live round the corner we've never been. Will definitely be back, the work and attention to detail on the model village incredible, also to add to the experience we loved the 'can you find' puzzle, absolutely suitable for the adults as well.

StephG — Google review

Beautiful place. Nice and clean. Lovely kind staff. Lovely pot of tea and variety of food and cakes. Reasonable prices.

Absolutely delicious and huge afternoon tea. Nothing was too much trouble even though they were very busy. A lovely walk round the model village afterwards too

The best place in Bridlington for cakes scones . All homemade. Breakfast menu very good and great portions and all at fantastic prices. Real suntrap to sit out and enjoy your morning coffee.

Nice little seating area, and lovely Mocha, interesting cups and decent size. Mocha (half coffee, half chocolate) is a drink that many places struggle to get right, or they use cheap ingredients, so it's always nice to find a cafe that gets it right. Will certainly visit again.

The country house Sewerby Hall & Gardens is a Grade listed building and home to the East Yorkshire Museum. It contains a zoo and an aviary, which you can visit during guided tours.

Lovely trip on the outskirts of Brid. Something different to do than the arcades and Beach.Gorgeous main build that you are aloud to walk around inside and soak up all the history and memorabilia of the past. Enjoyed the interactive experiences offered through the hall.Lovely mini zoo with plenty of active animals to see throughout the day.

Dazneyland — Google review

An excellent day out for a very reasonable price. The gardens are very pretty and whilst we were there, a dinosaur exhibition was on that was brilliant and made good use of the space. The house itself is worth spending a good amount of time exploring. The staff are particularly helpful to explain its history. A nice cafe on site with plenty of seating indoors and out. The zoo was a highlight with some beautiful animals. A great family day out

Chris G — Google review

This is a very relaxing place to spend some time. The house wasn't open on our weekday Visit (only open weekends). The grounds are ideal for walking around with no hills and very few steps (only at the entrance to the hall) and the toilets are very clean and include a disabled/baby change facility. Getting into the zoo you need to get a token from the information office. The zoo is easy to get around with a clear paved path throughout.A wonderful collection of birds greats you at the entrance, including a very chatty parrot.Definitely worth a visit and you can spend as little or as much time that you want here.Parking is FREE and a land train runs down to Bridlington Town centre.

C J — Google review

Apparently you get a small discount when pre booking, but I still didn't mind paying£11.50 For that you get the hall/ house itself, which has been restored to what it looked like before it was bought by the council. There are also guides in the house to help you with any questions. I am happy how Steven was trying to get me as much information as he could. If you really enjoy these mansions, an hour in the house is a minimum. For the entry charge, so also get to walk in their gardens and a very small zoo, but it's still good to visit. They have penguins and lemurs. And more. Definitely my visit exceeded expectations. I ended my visit by jumping on their road train to the town for£3. Enjoyed that too. The driver was happy to explain where the train is actually going. At least now, September 2024,they have LEGO dinosaurs in the gardens.

Just been today for the first time & had a lovely day. The house & gardens are beautifully kept. Lovely to see The Morgan classic cars all parked in front of the house. Staff lovely and the lovely knowledgeable one in the hut where we walked along cliff tops, on leaving back exit. Enjoyable day!

Jackie H — Google review

Fantastic value for money, brilliant for families and lovely location. The staff in the house were lovely, the little touches for children such as the signs to show what they could and couldn't touch, made it a very welcoming place to take my 5 and 6 year old. Will be back.

C W — Google review

Had a fantastic day here. Good value at £11.50 per adult for the house, wonderful gardens and a small zoo. Also great cafe with a proper pot of tea. I had a toasted teacake with plenty of butter and Martin had a lovely cheese panini. Animals in the zoo look well cared for so was good to visit. Highly recommended

Rebecca F — Google review

Really enjoyed our visit here. It’s well signposted so easy to find by car. The ticket is one price for the house, gardens and zoo. You pay separately if you want to use the land train to Bridlington (which we did). The staff across the estate were lovely - really friendly and knowledgeable. We didn’t explore the gardens as the weather wasn’t on our side. The house is well displayed with information in each room setting out key points and there’s staff available if you want any additional information. The cafe on site had decent food options but we just had hot drinks, both of which were nice. The zoo if pretty impressive with a good variety of animals to view and a few that you a pet. Would definitely recommend and likely to return when the weather is better so that we can enjoy the gardens as well as the zoo again. Would also recommend the land train as you get a good view of the coast.

Debra W — Google review

Sewerby Hall and Gardens is a lovely place to visit, beautiful gardens which seems to go for miles and the house 🏠 is lovely and stunning front with views of the lawns and sea views.,and they even have their own small zoo, which is good to see.Theres also cafe and plenty of seating areas and also a children's park for them to play and picnic benches so you can have snacks while the kids are playing.Reasonably priced too.Parking can be a problem when its really busy like it was that day we went, but we waited and got lucky and got a space.

Caroline W — Google review

Really enjoyable visit, nice little zoo and trails for the kids. We took the land train to Bridlington, which is an additional price. It's a nice 1.75 mile walk over the cliff tops if you would rather. The house has been adapted to be accessible for disabled guests, which was great as we took my elderly mum. The staff were very thoughtful and helpful, they helped transfer her into a push wheelchair from the scooter and we're in hand to operate the lifts when needed. Buying tickets online in advance saves a few pounds each.

Martin ( — Google review

A lovely place for a family day out. Plenty for kids and grown ups to do and see. The kids really enjoyed the interactive story walk and the Lego dinosaurs which are currently dotted around the grounds. There is only one toilet block which is near the entrance to the zoo so there could be quite a walk if you're elsewhere in the grounds.

Mark H — Google review

Perfect day out for you and the children. Small zoo but absolutely great donkey in it which was my daughter's favorite as she loved to pet him. The house itself was full of fun as the room with toys and the kitchen was full of things you can play with. Beautiful picnics are with a view on the sea side. Playground for kids. Large car park. Booking online will save you a few quid. Coffee and the scones are perfect to my liking;) Gardens are also mesmerizing full of flowers. Have great day.

Damian R — Google review

We thoroughly enjoyed a day out here with a 2 year old grandchild. There is plenty to see for both adults and children. The Hall has a couple of hands-on rooms for youngsters to dress up and draw or play. There is a zoo, walks, walled garden, children's play park and a cafeteria. We found a covered seating area near to the house that we could sit under during a rain shower and have our packed lunch. All things considered, good day out and would recommend a visit. There were also lego dinosaurs built around the grounds when we visited, very colourful and impressive.

Roger S — Google review

It's a well worth time spent venue whether you are on your own, with your family, bunch of friends... there's so much to see and learn, the staff are amazing and will answer your questions or point you in the right direction. If I counted right there are two gift hops, gardens, mini Zoo, a restaurant called Clock Tower cafe and obviously most important the house itself. Carpark fees are included with ticket price and there's quite a few parking spots. The venue is dog friendly with some restrictions which are clearly stated on information boards.Uniquely situated in a dramatic clifftop position with spectacular views over Bridlington and set in 50 acres of early 19th Century parkland, Sewerby Hall and Gardens offers something for everyone, from the magnificent gardens and zoo to the deep rooted heritage of the house.

Andrzej ( — Google review

What a wonderful place of fun, history, and information! We were recommended a visit here by a family member who used to live fairly close by, and I'm glad we took up the recommendation. It's quite astonishing and in an amazing situation, just set a way back from the cliff edge. The facilities are quite extensive, the house, gardens, parkland, restaurant, available to all visitors, staffed by knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff, a thoroughly enjoyable day out and one we'll be happy to repeat when we're next in the area!

Nigel M — Google review

We came here not knowing too much what to expect and we were pleasantly surprised! The Hall itself is beautiful, lots to see and plenty of information to take in. Even my 6 year old loved it! The gardens are beautiful to walk in, again lots of hidden things to find. My daughter liked the playground. The zoo was lovely, so many different birds! And how close you are to the penguins is amazing. Can't comment on the food as the cafe didn't sell anything my little girl eat, but we got some ice lollies from the shop instead.

Hannah B — Google review

Lovely afternoon visit, the house has a warmly lived in feeling unlike many other country houses. The zoo afforded a nice opportunity to get up close and observe the colourful birds and mammals. The highlight was observing the penguins feeding and learning about their individual personalities from their friendly keepers. The cafe serves satisfying lunch and the delicious hot chocolate was a hit. Overall a really enjoyable visit.

Michael F — Google review

Great day out, play area for kids, activities inside the house for kids also which I feel is rare for such attractions, small zoo with birds, lemurs, goats, penguins and more. Worth seeing penguin feeding time. Free car park, decent cafe serving good food & drinks.

Richard H — Google review

A fantastic place for a day out!We visited here today for the first time and we had a such a fun time. We are just visiting on holiday but I would 100% visit this regularly if I was local. The place was huge, so well kept and clean and just very relaxing atmosphere. You are spoilt for choice with things to do and places to go- even just wandering around in the beautiful scenery made our day.£11.50 per adult which I thought was very fair considering there was so much to do! Free parking as well which had plenty of spaces. The man on the counter/hut was so friendly and helpful it was a lovely welcome. We had no problems getting a small mobility scooter around, it was all very accessible and mostly flat.It was very dog friendly and our 2 collies absolutely loved having a walk somewhere new. There was plenty of bins around too which was handy. (They aren't allowed in the zoo or the house which is fair) we were still able to see the donkeys, shetland ponies, deer, alpacas and sheep whilst walking around so you don't miss out on too much!We enjoyed the dinosaur lego sculptures dotted around the place- amazing to see so many bricks were used for each one. Was a fun little bonus to the park for sure.We both enjoyed looking at the beautiful plants/trees/gardens/wood carvings etc- the place was just so peaceful and brimming with wildlife! There was plenty of seats dotted around to sit and enjoy the quiet. It had a cute Paddington bear theme which was so canny. There was a lovely little gift shop and the lady was really friendly in there too. We enjoyed some yummy sandwiches as a quick lunch :)I'd say probably one of the top places to visit in the area, could have happily stayed from open to close had we have had more time- we couldn't recommend it more! 5* day we've had thank you :)

Chelsea W — Google review

Garden, house, zoo, Lego dinosaurs, flowers and everything you could think of was superb. However, we were put off buying some ice-cream as we observed the staff member touching everything behind the till, handling all customer items, touching their own face etc and never following hygiene before touching ice-cream cones. Please improve this as it spoilt the experience for us.

RSPB Bempton Cliffs is a natural reserve that offers various viewpoints and nature trails to observe seabirds, particularly puffins from April to July. Visitors can walk along the cliff tops which provide them with an elevated perspective of thousands of birds nesting. The purpose-built observatories enable a bird's eye view of the surrounding natural habitat. Additionally, there is a cafe, shop and toilet facilities available for visitors.

Beautiful place with the best views ever!Got to see dolphins swimming in the sea!Birds that I never knew even existed! Wonderful place for long walks too!Highly recommend

Fabulous experience walking along the cliff tops, meeting other walkers, watching the seabirds, mostly Ganets and finally enjoying a tasty piece of cake and a cup of tea/coffee served by friendly cafe staff. A great shop with lots of interesting souvenirs and gifts. We were lucky enough to see a pod of about 13 dolphins on our first visit.

Carole P — Google review

It wasn't the best day for me to make my first visit to the cliffs, but I mustn't complain. The wind was blowing a hoolie, but I was escorted most of the way by one of the volunteers a chap called Richard who was amazing at spotting birds, so I did get some pics and nice sightings. Beautiful place to spend a day, and I will be back for definite when more birds are down.

Will also hold a place in my heart. Not only Bridlington but especially Bempton Cliffs. My parents used to bring me here to see the wonderful, majestic seabirds. This time I had my dog with me on a lead. The RSPB site here is excellent. Perfect for photographs of the birds but they also provide a nice cafe to relax in and a shop. Will be back again. Also, if you can please consider becoming an RSPB member. They do fantastic work for birds, i renewed my membership during this visit.

Really amazing place, definitely a must see once in your life and if you’re a bird watcher it must be paradise. Check what birds will be nesting for your visit time especially if you’re after certain birds as they do come and go. Plenty of parking with a visitors centre that has a cafe, shop and information. The walk ways and lookouts are well maintained and staffed, you can rent binoculars if you forget yours.

Tom B — Google review

Wonderful place to visit during the spring/early summer nesting season. A great opportunity to see the largest seabird colony in the UK. Viewing platforms and paths are well maintained and allow disabled access and viewing opportunities.Plenty of friendly RSPB representatives are avaliable to assist in spotting the birds and provide interesting information about the wildlife. They do a great job and are crucial in supporting the future of this very important seabird colony.During your visit remember to also look inland every so often as you may spot a barn owl hunting in the long grass/farm land.

Sami T — Google review

The cliffs are a beautiful place to walk along no matter what the month/season! The birds are simply amazing to see up close and soaring in the air over the sea. Fabulous place to watch them and take photos. There's viewing platforms dotted along the cliff tops so you get to see different areas which is handy. There's a little rspb gift shop that is handy for gifts and collecting pin badges. They also have a cafe but we've never used it so can't say!Love that it is dog friendly (on leads) too! They have a dog bin (near the shop) which is handy! It is also disabled friendly :) 100% worth a visit! The only 'con' I ever see over the years is sometimes you get the selfish photographers who don't let others in to view the birds because they have set up their tripods/cameras and don't want to move- but most folk are friendly and will let you in when they have got their shots.

Chelsea W — Google review

It is one of the best places in UK to see wildlife. You can see a lot of birds . A must visit place maintained by RSPB. Had got a small coffee shop too. Lot of parking space

Seby P — Google review

Great day out, especially if you've got a good zoom lens or a pair of binoculars. Plenty of sea birds on the cliffs or out over the water, including gannets and puffins (in July). The landscape itself is very impressive, even if you visit in a season where there are fewer birds about. Would definitely recommend

J F — Google review

A great place to see lots of sea birds. We did see a couple of puffins. The area has plenty of paths to walk on and there are numerous look out platforms to allow for closer viewing of the birds. It was quite busy during the middle of the day, but it was a Saturday!!

Susan Y — Google review

Please protect our birds' nests!I love this place and visited around the winter of 2019-2020, when the cliffs were teeming with birds. Many birds were floating on the sea near the cliffs, feeding and resting. We even spotted dolphins from the shore. I returned this weekend, full of anticipation. Four years later, the place is still beautiful, but the bird population has significantly declined. One major issue is the "Yorkshire Belle," Bridlington's famous pleasure cruiser, which often sails very close to the cliffs. It frequently stops to let its passengers admire the cliffs, clearly disturbing these lovely birds. Birds no longer feed near the cliffs but have moved further out to sea. This disturbance is troubling, and the population by the end of this summer is even smaller than it was in the winter four years ago.Can the RSPB please consider restricting these cruise boats? I hope our birds can be better protected from such disturbances.

I went for the afternoon, with a friend. We ended up staying until about 8pm!It's years since I've been and I'd forgotten just how magical it was.We even saw three puffins (their orange feet help to spot them!) I was so happy to see them as it was a little early in the season for them. The turquoise-coloured water, down below, was stunning!Watching the gannets was memorising, but I think the razorbills are a new favourite of mine...Such a beautiful day out, but it was sunny when we went.

Jackie W — Google review

Beautiful walk, we only did half of it which took us good 1 and half hours to walk there and back with 2 kids and a baby in pushchair. I wouldn’t say it’s all flat but we managed fine with the pushchair. Didn’t take much pics as it was busy when we went beautiful scenery. The drinks in cafe are very overpriced but that’s what you expect at a tourist attraction. On positive side the money does go back into looking after that area. Worth a visit

Daisy — Google review

What can I say. If you want birds this is the place. We arrived at first light and walked out to the cliffs. There is no charge if there before it opens, charges apply once the site is open best check prices on website, no charge for members. Cafe and toilets are great and reasonable prices. Ok let’s face it you aren’t that interested in that, you came for the birds. They are here in their 1000s. Gannets, razorbills, puffins etc are all here. We also saw dolphins, hares, lots of other wild birds. Didn’t see the owl but hey ho. There are staff at every viewing area and they set up scopes and point out interesting info, they also allow you to view the birds through their gear which is lovely if you don’t have powerful binoculars or a camera with a lens that can see into the future. That said. You will be able to get amazing pics with just a phone. Don’t be intimidated by the people with those huge lens. Most will let you look through their lens. Go and have a fabulous day. It’s magical to see these gorgeous birds.

Bempton is like no other place if you like to see Sea birds. We love coming. RSPB Members are free but if you're not a member you just pay to park. It's the Coastal Path so you can have a lovely picturesque walk. The cafe has lots of choices, not the cheapest for cakes but the drinks are good and if you want to picnic there are many benches. There are nature walks, binocular hire and activities for children. It's Bird heaven there are so many sea birds and all in a beautiful setting. We come every year and are never disappointed

Julie W — Google review

Bempton Cliffs is a real jewel for bird watchers and nature lovers alike. Beautiful dramatic views over the Cliffs and the North Sea are a stunning backdrop to view the amazing sea birds nesting on the coast. Gannets, Guillemots, Razor Bills, Kittiwakes, Terns and Puffins soar overhead and over the sea. There are lots of viewing platforms and paths along the cliffs that get you very close to the birds with lots of opportunities for photos. The visitors centre is amazing with hot and cold food, snacks and beverages, indoor and outdoor seating and a great gift shop.Plenty of other birds to see too such as Barn Swallows, Linnets, Whitethroat to name a few as well as a nesting Barn Owl. All round a great experience and we'll definitely be returning next year.

Sallyanne R — Google review

Wonderful place to visit during nesting season! Safe cliff top paths, thousands of seabirds to see, including puffins. Mobility scooters are available to hire if you pre-book, but not all the paths are accessible this way - so any disabled visitors have less of that wow factor. Little cafe with a small range of food, shop, toilets. Parking gets busy at peak times.

Victoria W — Google review

Managed to get a parking space on a very busy Saturday afternoon, seemed like everyone wanted to see the puffins - we weren't disappointed! We saw lots of different breeds however they were all flying back and forth to feed their chick's so no real photo opportunities as such. Little café and nice gift shop too. Recommended

Fantastic 300 for cliffs with huge nesting colonies of gannets, gulls and cormorants. So many birds and with a pair of binoculars you get fantastic views.Great facilities, decent car park, good cafe and shop ( didn't think it was overpriced) and staff were really helpful with RSPB rangers out on the cliffs with spotting scopes. Great for kids. There is a good walk upto Flamborough Head, but take care the cliffs are huge!

Trevor H — Google review

Simply, beautiful. Various birds throughout the year depending on nesting seasons etc. A pleasure come rain or shine. Great clifftop walks, other nature aswell as birds. Members have free entry. Shop and cafe on site, plenty of picnic areas to. Just peaceful and quiet (minus the sound of the birds, which is therapeutic).

Danes Dyke Nature Reserve is located on the Flamborough headland in East Yorkshire. Covering nearly 150 acres, it was originally an ancient earthwork and encloses five square miles of the peninsula. The area features nature trails that are easily accessible from the car park off the main Bridlington to Flamborough Road. Visitors can enjoy a lovely secluded beach, and there's a cafe serving the reserve with a good selection of hot and cold drinks and food at reasonable prices.

Shop was shut. Parking fees are OK but the machine disnt work so we had to do it on the phone app .Toilets were clean and well maintained. The walk down to the beach is rather steep not suitable for wheelchairs. Lovely beach. (No seagulls.) Would definitely recommend

A nice little beach, although you need a strong heart to get up and down the path leading to it. Car park is reasonably inexpensive and there is a lovely little cafe on the car park that does tea and coffee along with sandwiches and other snacks. I'd say it's worth a trip but not suitable for people in wheelchairs or who are unable to walk far

Lovely walking trails, foggy when we visited but then views must be great on a nice dayParking £4.50 all day

This is a beautiful place, more so when the tide is out as you can look in all the rock pools and walk around the bay. Wear suitable shoes as its very pebbly to get to the sandy part. Dogs are welcome all year round. If you don't like the beach then have a walk in the woods, great for all ages. Highly recommended if you like a bit of Tranquility. Carpark is free after 6pm and if your there all day best getting the 24hr ticket ( better value).

Chucked it down but was still a great visit. Daughter & boyfriend had the beach to their selves #teenagers 🙄Don't be afraid of the tight road. It's a one way system.

Visited whilst on holiday in the area. It's a stunning, peaceful location. With good parking at the top. Decent down the road to the beach is relatively steep, so be mindful of this if a wheelchair user.

Walked on the Beach from South Landing, really enjoyed it. Kiosk is excellent, enjoyed Tea & Coffee.Excellent value for money!

Fantastic! The grand reveal of the beach is well worth the walk through the woods. Nice areas to explore down in the river valley. The beach doesn't feel like you're in Britain.Reccomend checking the tides before you visit, as at high tide it's a very small stone beach, at low tide the beach can stretch out for about 150 metres.Reccomend walking shoes in winter, the slope from the carpark can be very steep and slippery.Good cafe at the top with basic choices.Toilet facilities relatively clean.Carpark has multiple overflows. Traffic wardens do patrol here sometimes

A lovely countryside location. Great walks and picnic area. Small tarmac car park and a lot more parking in an adjacent field. Nice cafe kiosk with outdoor seating. Pay and display car parking at reasonable rates. Walks in the woods and down to the beach.

David C — Google review

A stunning place to visit just remember its all downhill to the beach so obviously a steep walk back up

Lovely remote place to walk dog. Steep-ish slope down to shore and fairly rocky till you reach the sand. Car park at top as you cant drive down . Tread careful. Cheap pay to park . Great views of sea, cliffs and Brid in the distance.

What a great place to walk got so much contrast you have a woody area some step paths the you get down to beach ⛱️ it is stoney but worth it 👌 then you go up onto the coastal path and if your fit all the way to Flamborough head car park was not dear.not a big carpark should have open up.the overflow one .the cafe was good nice coffee all in all a lovey day out for all the family

Absolutely beautiful place! What a hidden gem we only came across this place due to Google. Its one of our favourite places now. We was the only people there. Beautiful views and white pebbles for as far as the eye can see. We scattered a few of our beloved dogs ashes here. The bay is also a NO TAKE ZONE which I absolutely love. Hopefully people adhear too it. It was raining but that didn't stop us enjoying ourselves. In the car park is toilet facilities aswell as a kiosk selling freshments and snacks.

Stunning beach next to a small but lush forest, good for short walks and mountain bike. Some nice steep sectionsThe tide comes in quote early, so need to get there in the morning enjoy the sandy beachLong, shallow stretch of water, great for kidsCafe is good, cash only though so watch outLots of parking, can get boggy in the shade. Pay and display

It's a place for dogs, and their humans on leads. Decent car park. Free toilets

Just a nice place to go for a quiet day on the beach

Col W — Google review

Even if the tide is in it's still a beautiful place to be, generally quieter than other beaches

Reeta T — Google review

With all the large white pebbles anyone with walking problems would be wise not to try to cross the piles of huge pebbles to access the beach parking is pricey

Susan W — Google review

Beautiful nature reserve with a route to the beach. It is a hard walk with steep hills but is fine for electric bikes ect. The beach itself is amazing with large white rocks at the top with soft sand further towards the water with the cliffs as your backdrop. Parking is available at the top with toilets and a little cafe.

We walked from Flamborough through the woods, so peaceful. The bluebells and wild garlic were magnificent. A wonderful time for us, a really good walk.
