With some regret, we’re selling our beautiful Cape George 36. We’ve lived and cruised on Danika since 2007 and are the third owners. Danika has cruised to Costa Rica and back and is ready to go again! We are knowledgeable owners have maintained Danika to impeccable standards with simple, safe, and effective cruising gear.

This particular Cape George 36 was designed and finished unlike any other. The cabin is taller and longer than typical to accommodate tall individuals. The head is forward, and the master stateroom includes a pullman berth, hanging lockers, and massive storage.

An Achilles heel of many Cape George yachts was the original bulwark design, which often leaked over time and lead to rot. The bulwarks on this boat were preemptively factory rebuilt at Cape George Marine Works, no rot was found, and the bulwarks now feature solid fiberglass integral to the deck and hull.

The boat’s systems are extremely accessible and designed to be simple and easily maintained. Her movement is comfortable at sea, and she includes offshore safety features such as wide decks, significant bulwarks, tall stanchions, and a full stainless push pit the extend from gate to gate. This boat is perfect as a liveaboard or world cruiser for a couple or small family.

The Cape George line hits a design sweet spot. They are remarkably fast. South African Kirsten Neuschäfer won the single-handed 2022 Golden Globe Race on her Cape George 36. These yachts sail in light air very well. When the breeze picks up, they show a beautiful transom to the last port of call.

All original drawings and pictures of the build come with the boat.

We’re in transition moving off the boat and is available to view at Shilshole Bay Marina in Seattle, WA. Feel free to contact me with questions.

The master cabin features a pullman-style berth, which is unusual for Cape Georges. The main salon features long settees port and starboard, with a table on the port side.

The galley is aft to port and the nav station, fridge and electrical panel is to starboard. The galley includes an older propane stove and oven, and deep double sink.

Design comments

The Cape George Cutter is the design of William "Bill" Atkin. Bill had ideas about designing perfectly balanced, beautifully proportioned yachts that sail fast. In fact, it seemed that he wanted to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt what a good chunk of boat could do in a light breeze to a gale.

"with high bulwarks and broad teak decks, a low elegant house and spacious safe co*ckpit, a gentle sheer and wineglass transom, and a massive aft hung rudder, one that looked as if she could not only take you anywhere in the world, but that she would also love going there with you."

"The hulls are designed to bring the athwartship sections in very exact continuity, and this feature undoubtedly accounts for the exceptional speed and ability of the Atkinized hulls; for, despite a very generous displacement of nearly 22,000 lbs., and a modest spread of sail of approximately 750 square feet, these are fast yachts."
