OGR does it again!

  • Quote

Postby up148 » Tue May 08, 2018 8:46 am

Back in 2015, someone posted that Henry Bultman had passed away on the OGR forum and there were a few nice responses, then the thread went to sleep.

Then, 10 hours ago, a nephew posted a response, stating he had been trying to find Henry on the internet to tell him a sister passed away and ran into the OGR post from 2015. Brad A. made a nice comment about Henry's models 8 hours ago and then this was posted.

No new replies are permitted.

What is that all about? I'm trying to figure out just what harm allowing the thread to go back to sleep normally, as they always do, would cause. I wanted to post something nice too. What the h*ll is wrong with those guys at OGR, that they would lock this thread. OGR does it again! - Model Train Journal (1) This is an all time low for them IMHO!!!!!!

Unless there's an issue, unclear to me, this makes no sense.

Their heavy handed behavior, arbitrary censorship, protection of cronies, etc. is one of the reasons I don't advertise or become a sponsor. Their outrageous rates are a factor also.

I've been called out for mentioning Right-O'-Way, and I kind of understand the rationale, but the way they handle most situations is intolerable for me. I don't plan on posting much in the future. Yeah, I know, a little late on the uptake and all that. The truth is, posts on their forum get a lot of views. Having said that, I seriously doubt any sales resulted from such exposure.

Back to the original post, Henry deserved better. He brought a lot to our hobby. RIP Henry.

Maybe they can't get Henry to advertise and so locked the thread? Their expectations do tend to be AU's off from realistic.

The Bultmann thread as I viewed it:

Henry's great niece posted.

Brad Andonian made a nice comment.

Then there was a RUDE (in my opinion) comment posted by a forum member regarding Henry's estrangement from/lack of communication with his family.

When I checked the thread a bit later that comment had been removed.

After seeing this thread here on MTJ I returned to view the one on OGR, and it was indeed locked as is noted here. I am not sure if any other posts were made after the negative comment was removed. Did the original negative poster return and post more???? No way of knowing as a fair amount of time had lapsed.

It's hard to interpret things when you don't have all the information/correct timeline, or to know someone's motivation without having all the facts, but I'm giving the moderator's a pass, as I think they were trying to do the right thing.

Rich

PS: I communicated a bit with Henry over the years, and he once commented that he had taken care of his Father until he passed. He never spoke regarding the rest of his family, either good or bad.

I don't agree completely.

If someone is posting inappropriately why not moderate them. Closing down the whole thread was a typical overreaction, seen way too frequently.

Punish the many to protect the few?

This one might be a gray area, but the NK is well deserved. Heavy-handed censorship is the hallmark of autocrats.

I'm a freeloader over there, so I don't expect anything. A bit like being a guest in someone's house. Actually the same way here, but Bill is a much more benevolent ruler. Sarge uses a word "civility", and I'm thinking it's a good practice. Not always an easy practice to follow, but a good one no less, I think.

Does anyone know who the builder was for the 4-10-2? I thought it was Boo Rim, but I learned Henry dropped them after one of the WM projects. So far, know one knows who the builder was. Lee still has my loco so I can't look at the model or box.

Thanks Rich! You are a fountain of information.

What else have they built, do you know? This is a fantastic model and IMHO the nicest model Henry imported. Way ahead of its time on correct and special details plus working items like functioning articulated steam lines under the cab.

Hello Butch,

They have been around a while, but I don't know all that much about them. See:
