You just beat the WoF. What's your go-to hardmode weapon? (2024)

Any of the following:

  • Dynamite (destroyer cheese)
  • Grenades (good, high value damage that can handle hardmode enemy defense)
  • Adamantite/Titanium repeater (reasonable weapon, and extremely easy to make)
  • Dart rifle/pistol (great weapon, grinding is annoying)
  • Crystal serpent (you're going to fish in the hallow anyways)
  • Blade staff

Those are the only weapons I'd bother trying to get, but I'd use other weapons that I'll come across by chance.
I used to really like the CAR but it really sucks now with damage nerf and crystal bullet nerf. Good enough for queen slime but wouldn't use it on the mechs.
Daedulus stormbow used to be good too, but I think that darts are just a better weapon now with all the nerfs it's gotten. Still a good weapon but I'm not going to grind for it.

Frostbrand or Beam Sword are great for fighting the Twins, especially when on a minecart track.

Literally the worst weapons listed here: A LARGE AMOUNT of early Hardmode weapons tested against Expert Twins
I would bet money that even the best pre-hardmode weapons are better (night's edge, phoenix blaster, demon scythe.)

I go straight to the Daedalus Stormbow. Usually pair it with either holy or cursed arrows since they are easy to get. Can shred through the mechs with that thing.

There's 2 categories of "go-to hardmode weapon", imo. The first is "what do you plan on getting to kill the mechs (or at the very least your first mech) with?"
My answer to that is usually dart pistol/rifle (way better than daedalus imo since it maintains its usefulness throughout more of the game), but an ore repeater, onyx blaster, shadowflame knife, blade/sanguine staff, cursed flames, crystal serpent, or crystal storm (or if I get extremely lucky, spirit flame) would do the trick too. The dynamite destroyer cheese is also a decent option but I haven't tried that yet (and I'm usually against using cheese strats on bosses).

However there's also the question of "what should I use to fend off early hm enemies before I get a better weapon?" While it's okay to just use your pre-hm weapons (night's edge, phoenix blaster and book of skulls especially) for a bit, there's also several other options that work even better - mainly spider gear, abigail (plus firecracker), and the blowgun (this thing is crazy underrated)

Blowgun is a prehardmode weapon that hugely benefits from hardmode ammo to the point that it becomes a hardmode weapon in functionality, which you can get within a minute of WoF being defeated. Just kill wof, go to the middle of the underworld, climb up, take a single crystal shard, and you're done!

Melee: Cry (Night's edge for basic mobs, Shadowflame knife for bosses. I wish melee had better shorter range melee like options at this point in the game rather than off brand ranger/mage weapons)
Summoner: Cry (Blade staff and Frost whip)
Mage: I haven't played it in a long time. I forgot. Sky fracture?
Ranger: Onyx blaster, Titanium repeater, Clockwork assault rifle (Rangers are so lucky, I envy them)

The title says it all. You can also suggest people to try something out/ask for suggestions here if you want, but keep this thread mainly to the point of the title.
Mine would have to be the Breaker Blade, as its just SO DANG POWERFUL. In classic mode, its ability allows me to oneshot most hardmode enemies. However, other than WoF drops, it's the Adamantite Repeater, as it allows me to easily defeat Skeletron prime/The Twins.

If it says melee damage, it's a melee class weapon, same with all the weapons of every other class.

If Terraria has multiple ways and weapons to play the game with, the game should be balanced to make on tier weapons be viable and on par with each other. Keep in mind that after doing the 19th or 3rd classless playthrough, most players will just decide to class lock for the challenge and for fun.

Farm king slime in the tundra to easily get the ice sickle which is good for farming enemies and the amorak bc of the frostbite debuff. For mage I just get the golden shower, summoner I get the sanguine staff (even in expert and master mode) and range I use repeaters or uzi if I’m lucky.

Drippler Crippler or the fire yoyos, If those aren't close range enough for you I don't know what to tell you

Night's edge is plenty enough for early hardmode especially with the 1.4.4 aoe addition

Mage's top priority should probably be spirit flame, but I have yet to do an honest mage playthrough, so a good early weapon could be sky fracture or crystal serpent or any of the tome books

Ranger should get any dart weapon asap (as many people have already said)

Summoner has spiders and firecracker and possibly abigail to get them to queen slime/dreadnautilus

Drippler Crippler is an insane option since without cheesing him with defense, he is harder than the mechanical bosses due to how many mobs it spawns in the blood moon and the enemies he summons. It is absolutely not a go to hardmode weapon, at least for early hardmode. Once you're more prepared, it can be.

Amarok and Hel-Fire are other good choices tbh. I should have considered them but I barely ever farm for them, idk if I should.

Is it really that broken for basic mobs now?, havent tested it much. Doesnt it deal bad DPS?
